I've been having a problem getting The Longest Journey to launch on my Windows 10 computer. When I click on the game, I get the loading icon on my cursor for a second, but no window opens. I've done this several times. When I open the Task Manager to investigate, it shows the application for The Longest Journey as running, though with 0% CPU usage and 0 MB/s disc usage. It's as though the program has frozen before it even opens the window.

Oddly enough, I was able to open the program fully once before, but if I remember correctly, the main menu didn't work properly, and I got stuck there, and when I manually closed the program, it caused problems with my screen resolution until I restarted my computer. I uninstalled it, intending to troubleshoot it at a later date, but now that I reinstalled it to try again, it won't open at all, and I can't find any posts about problems like this at all.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I know its been a couple of weeks since your post so I'm not sure if you've worked it out yet or still care.

I had the same problem when trying to launch the game from GOG galaxy

I just ran the game from the exe file in the games folder and it worked perfectly.

Hope the solution is as simple for you too.
Yep, I have the same problem and it launches fine from the exe. It did crash and freeze on exit though. Perhaps a bug with the Galaxy client launching the game.

I own the original four discs that the game released on in 2000. I spent quite some time this evening installing the game again...and, suprisingly, it went through all the motions of installing all four discs. But, at the end, it popped up a message that DirectX cannot be installed on my Windows 10 Pro x64 system and, subsequently, I cannot even find the game anywhere on my system after all this time spent.

Since I OWN the original game discs, is there a way to get a patch/update for the game that I own?

I have got the same problem. It closes with the error message "Failed to initialize direct3d. Aborting". Tried all combatiblity options. Nothing worked. Starting the game out of installation folder didnt help. Does anyone got a hint?
Finally I got the game on my GPD Win 2 running. Go to the installation folder and edit the file "prefs.dat". Change "fullscreen 1" to "fullscreen 0". Start the game. Change the resolution in the options menu to 1280 x 720 and the other options as you like. Save the changes you made. Exit the game. Edit prefs.dat again and change "fullscreen 0" to "fullscreen 1". Now it should be running.

Not a patch but a game interpreter ResidualVM daily build. This should run any version of the game.

Looks like the GoG version haven't the latest patch (it still in 1.41 while latest is 1.61). I've found similar problems and afeter upgrade to latest is working. The only problem is that need some work like convert all iss files to ogs (ogg) or sound will not work.
For now the only problem I've got is that confirmation box when you exit the game is white, but you just press "Y" and you're out.

Greetings!!
You're all going to kick yourself. I thought I was having this issue too, but it turns out that when you launch TLJ in Galaxy, the launch window opens in the background. Launch it then minimse Galaxy and you'll see it.

Right you are. Thx!
I'm having this same issue when trying to launch the game from Goglaxy. But launching it from the exe as this post suggests makes it work. Thanks.

I know this is an old post, but what I found is that if you install SCUMMVM and add TLJ to it. It runs much better. You can even add the HD mod to improve the graphics as well.

GOG has added SCUMMVM to a lot of the older point and click games they have on the store already. I don't know why they haven't done this with TLJ.

Years later, I'm still not able to play TLJ normally. So I took the SCUMMVM program and ran the whole thing myself. Game now runs on it rather than on GOG launcher or anything else. Feels like going through VTM: Bloodlines all over again.

Zainstalowałam grę i kiedy chcę ją uruchomić wyświetla mi się komunikat "rootpath registry information missing". Miał ktoś ten problem?
