I haven't had any problems with the Tex Murphy games until Overseer. Well I did have one with Pandora Directive but the Graphic Mode Setup worked that out. However that isn't an option in Overseer. My problem is that when I run the game, I get full sound but absolutely no graphical display at all. If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears. Thanks.

have you tried the config panel in overseer under video
As I stated pretty clearly, there is absolutely no graphical display. Nothing appears but a black screen. How am I supposed to enter any config options when there is no video? I suppose I could guess as to the location of everything and click randomly, but does that really strike you as a solution?
And unlike Pandora Directive, there is no Graphic Mode Setup link with the Overseer install. So if anyone knows of some other way to access the graphic selection, by all means, lets hear it. But please refrain from telling me to edit graphic options within the game when I've stated very clearly that there are no graphics period to begin with.

excuse me but i was only trying to help, I actually thought you meant once you started playing the game as many people had this problem with overseer with the original version.
Over the years I do recall getting something like this - have a look at GOG's installation folder for default config file , or default 2 config file, tex.ini file
you should have the following lines. Could you tell me if anything is different
[VERSIONINFO]
Version=1.04
Build=330
[DIGI]
RSXDeviceType=directsound
[VWORLD]
RasterMode=-1
[VIDEO]
MCIDEFAULT=-2
ZMultiThread=1
[SYSTEM]
LockVideo=-1

I apologize. I should not be snappy. I'm just annoyed and disappointed that I can't play the game but it certainly isn't your fault.
I do have similar data in both the Default and Default2 INI files. All my settings seem to be the same as yours.
In both the original cd and dvd version when you've got garbled video you've got to change the LockVideo=-1 to LockVideo=1 in Tex.ini
Don't know if it will work in the GOG version, but there's no harm in trying. You can always change it back

changing the lock video from -1 helped if you had mouse trails/artifacts on screen, having the -1 or not can cause video problems . overseer does not like multi thread processors
version info checks that they have the patch installed
Well I have a multi-threaded processor, definitely. What do you mean about something checking for a patch? So basically I can't run this game on Vista or a modern computer, despite the fact that this is entirely the point of GOG?

this tells you have the path, default cong file, checking this makes sure you have the patch,
GOG may have made these adjustments, some people have set the affinity to run in one processor . This is done in task manager while the exe file is running . just means when you run game it just uses one processor. Have you tried the lock video option yet.
to set affinity, ctrl + alt + delete - task manager, processes, look for overseer.exe, right click mouse , click on affinity, click first processor only.

Well all my default.ini files do say version 1.04 so I guess I have the patch though it doesn't seem to matter. I also tried setting the affinity and that didn't seem to really make any difference. I guess I just can't run this on my quad core Vista machine. Fortunately I have an older computer that I can run it on and it does seem to run there. I'm just greatly disappointed that these games are not going to keep up with newer computers and newer hardware which rather defeats the entire purpose of this site.

your pc shouldn't matter, mine is vista core 2 duo but then again I am not using gog version.
maybe emailing support they will be able to suggest something.
Try updating or reinstalling your video drivers. Comparing the ability of Dosbox playing any of the earlier games with a game running natively in windows is not an apples to apples comparison.
I have this exact same issue. No video, sound is there. But I press space or esc, assumedly to get to the menu, then alt-tab out and back in, I have a menu. But the mouse will not move! Pandora Directive worked great. I tried disabling my NOD32 antivirus. Tried switching compatibility mode to Win98. Tried Run as Administrator. Nothing seems to affect the issue.
Here are my specs:
Vista 64-bit Ultimate SP2
ATI 4870x2 with new 9.7 drivers (gutted out all the old ones last night)
Creative X-Fi PCI
C2D E8400
DFI mainboard, etc.
@Donborvio with your graphics card is there anyway to only use a single gpu processor by changing a setting in the ati control panel?
@cardician could you post your system specs and OS please?
Also I would advise both of you to contact gog support, explain in as much detail as possible your problem and send them a dxdiag as well.
Found the fix. Disable Catalyst A.I. This essentially does what the previous poster recommended (goes to one core only).
