Crackpot.756: I'm somewhat confused by the one hornet statue among all the armor statues.
Take note of the location of that hornet statue vs the armor statues on the same level.

I sort of noticed. It still confuses me a little but it's a nice base. Demonite brick?
Just noticed the switch down there, what does it do? Can you... actually make trap doors with blocks? o_o

Blue Dungeon Bricks, for explosion proof housing (since Clowns used to blow up every type of placed brick other than Dungeon Bricks).

The switch is indeed part of a trap door style drop for a hellevator. If you look closely you can see that there are 3 active bricks on top and 3 inactive bricks just below. All 6 bricks are linked to the switch, which means that they switch between active and inactive status when the switch is activated. This means the first use of the switch will drop you down to the bottom set (if you're standing on the top ones) and the second activation will return them to the original status while dropping you down the hellevator (a straight shaft going down to Hell).

Back before 1.2 you needed Active Bricks which can be found as part of the boulder drop traps in caves or crafted. In 1.2 you can use Actuators (bought from the Mechanic) along with wires to turn any type of brick into an activatable one.

Oh I heard about that, sounds like a pain in the backside.

WingedKagouti: The switch ...
That's pretty cool. o.o
I've been crushed by boulders countless times, yet it never occurred to me that those bricks could be put to good use.

Clowns were kinda hated for that reason.

Also, once you've unlocked the Mechanic (you'll find her tied up in the Dungeon, speak with her to release) you should take a look at her inventory. The Wire Cutter can help you save on buying wires if you bring it with you when you go spelunking underground, and you'll most likely need it anyway if you decide to mess with wiring.

Understandable. Building with different materials is one of the most fun things to do imo so if a clown, of all things, came along and ruined it... gah.

Thanks for the tip, although I knew about that one! One of my worlds has survived long enough for Plantera at least. Some things I picked up along the way, others just eluded me, obviously; I mostly use wires to move water around.
WAIT

When the hell do clowns show up!?

When should I start having to worry about "bomb" proofing my house? Right now I'm using all stone; am I going to have to replace all of that?

Whenever I reach these milestones I hope you all are awake and ready because I am going to be in here with a load of stupid questions the likes of which you could never imagine!!!! :P

Since I'm still here, should I hold onto all the pressure plates I pick up? I just noticed on the Wiki that only certain ones are activated by baddies while the common ones I end up with dozens of are only activated by players. Oh and let me know if I should move this question to a separate thread. :D

Clowns appear during Blood Moons while Hardmode is active, as of 1.2 they no longer blow up bricks so you don't have to bomb proof your house anymore.

Pressure plates you find will always be player activated only, and you'll likely find way more than you're ever going to need. The other types are sold by the Mechanic.

WingedKagouti, you continue to be my guiding light, thank you. :D

I'll try to keep it thread specific in the forums from now on.
My attempt at building an armory. It turned out to be a bit bigger than I expected and I may be too lazy to finish it... ;-)

How did you do the stairs? That may be a silly question but bare with me. :P

Use hammer on platforms. The same way you can make sloped blocks. :)
Little something to commemorate effort put into getting Fishron Wings. It took only 70+ kills. I begun to suspect that rng may not like me... (Warning: NSFW language).
