Saw Terraria for Mac was available on Gog today and decided to download and try.

The download is marked as 1.3.0.8 (GoG-1).

Problem: Cannot start the game by double clicking the Terraria.app file.

Workaround: Seems to run great if instead of trying to double click I open a terminal and run it via the following command:

/Applications/Terraria.app/Contents/MacOS/GOGLauncher

I had previously run 1.2.0.something in a Mac Wrapper. This version definitely seems to run faster and I can finally use the map.

I'm running Mac OS 10.10.5, and I also tried this on Mac OS 10.10.4 earlier today. Same problem on both systems, same solution.

I really don't know mac systems, but this feels like a packaging problem since the game runs fine.

There's no errors in the terminal window when I try:

open /Applications/Terraria.app

also from the command line. It just silently dies.

Hope this helps someone else.

The game is actually located in, "/Applications/Terraria.app/Contents/Resources/game/Terraria.app". I'm not sure why GOG had to make a launcher? Maybe if you moved the actual game file out into Applications, it would run when launched.

You could also try right clicking on the app and selecting "Open".

I poked around and saw some .dll files in a folder so just assumed the game was wrapped for mac, but I didn't see this the first time.

When I "Show Package Contents" and click on the app you listed above (just to see the response to the click) things work.

Funny. Seems like its mispackaged even though the game runs fine.

Oh yeah, that deeper Terraria.app is exactly the app that the devs intended. Rename the outer Terraria.app (so it doesn't conflict), move the innner one out, and throw away that wrapper. GoG, stop trying to "improve" stuff with this silly wrapper business.

I had been launching from the terminal (via the wrapper), but you're both right, and moving the inner app out and putting it in my applications folder makes for a better experience. Tonight was the night I finally got around to testing it.

Thanks for reviving my double-click-the-app-to-start and for taking a moment of your days' to respond.

And for anyone else trying this, even though I backed up my saves, it appears I didn't need to back up anything. Settings and saves seem to be the same whether you use the "gog wrapped" version or the inner version.
