I don't buy or play many old games

you are missing out then. anyway, the update is live on steam, I assume GOG will follow shortly.
No, not missing out... as I said, been gaming a looong time... I only buy old games if they’re games I missed, like this one... that and remasters, but those don’t count ;)
avatar
voodoo47: yep, that's pretty much it (they are all doing it wrong)

Mawthra: K man

voodoo47: personal preference has nothing to do with it, it's simple mathematics, not that hard to understand.

Mawthra: What's hard for me to understand is that why in the 15+ years I've been gaming on PC, this is the only game to ever not work from Program Files... so to me, the odds of something going wrong with installing it in Program Files are pretty much non-existent... which is why those highly unintelligent people at Blizzard don't know what they're doing
Lul wut?

I've had this occur multiple times on Win10. Never on any Windows version before.

15 years?
The people at Blizzard couldn't even make a decent sequel to D2.

Judging from the way you write, I'm guessing you're, what? 9? Maybe 10? You didn't add anything constructive or cohesive to the conversation, just some cryptic streamer lingo... well done!
but he has a point - doesn't matter how big or established you are, you can make mistakes and dumb decisions that will make things annoying for other people.

This conversation keeps going in circles with the same things being repeated over and over... you can have the last word if that makes you feel better, totally fine with that, so have at it ;)
I actually did find it interesting - something that I consider a no-brainer is apparently not very clear from other people's point of view. human mind is an odd thing, and its inner workings are quite fascinating.
There IS a new update with a fix for the folder installation issue that will arrive any day, so be patient. Otherwise, just install the game in a separate folder for now.
If you guys are done being passive aggressive to each other, does anyone have an ETA on when the patch is dropping for us GoG plebeians?

Probably sometime on Monday, CEST

EDIT: or not...

I'm getting the same ucrt.dll issue with the Steam version no matter what I do in Windows 10. I've done all the stuff advised about net framework, MS VC++ 2015 etc., and keep getting this, which another poster showed on page 1 of this thread. I can't even get to the intro movie. Also tried disabling Malwarebytes, GeForce Exp., all the stuff one could think of:

Hey, can you provide more information about that issue? Did it happen before last update? Can you play the game to some extent or is this crash happening on startup, preventing you from playing it at all? Is there any file log file generated in %APPDATA%\Nightdive Studios\System Shock EE, such as stdout.txt, stderr.txt or CRASHLOG.txt?
Thanks.

First, thanks for taking an interest. To answer your questions, I'd never tried to run the game before. I heard that this new source port update was supposed to "just work" on new machines etc. so I figured I'd try it since I'd never played it back in the day (I didn't get a Windows PC till '99-- was on a Mac before) and had the Steam version. I looked in the folder you mentioned and there are no files there at all, the folder is empty. The behavior I see is, I click play, Steam makes an attempt to run the game for literally a second or two, then nothing--I never leave the game's page in the Steam Library list.
Is there any kind of support from Nightdive on this?
