voodoo47: - if the game still fails to launch with an ERROR! message after the intro, make sure the full path to the game exe is shorter than 64 characters (so for example C:\Games\Test of System ShockEE\System Shock - Enhanced Edition is ok, barely).
Maybe the installation folder should be "SSEE" instead of "System Shock - Enhanced Edition" so there's less chance of this happening :)
that's an example of a path that is just barely short enough to work (also will be deleted as soon as the next update which fixes the problem is up).

Q: I love the Source Port! I'm just wondering if there's any way to switch between the HQ character portraits and low res? I'm a weirdo and I prefer my crappy Shodan

I'd like to mention that this source port it's a HUGE success and if this is your first time on Citadel Station you are in for a blast!

The amount of care and attention to detail to this MOD is awesome. That being said I think the FAQ needs updating. It mentions the use of soundfonts but points to a FAQ that no longer works for Windows 8 and Windows 10. See the evil corporation decided to remove the MIDI Mapper Configuration on Win 8 and 10 and it gets worse... even if you succeed on installing them there's no way to make the software use the custom MIDI mapper.

I found a workaround :)
First get the BASS midi Driver from here:
https://kode54.net/bassmididrv/
Once you install the driver, it comes with a little tool that lets you set it as default MIDI driver. you will use this later!

Now download a soundfont.. Per the old guide own suggestions I found this one (really good!)

It's an EXE file inside a zip.. it's actually an old school self-extractor. You need to run it in order to obtain the sound font file (WeedsGM3.sf2)

Now run the little tool from the BASS midi Driver, select the sound font as your "top one" or if you are like me, weeds will be the only one. and apply your changes. Make sure you go into the advanced tab and make BASS midi the default.

This is the last step!
go here: https://coolsoft.altervista.org/en/midimapper
and once you download and run that little tool you will be able to select your default MIDI playback device!

now when you run SS EE it will sound GLORIOUSLY!

Wish you all happy explorations on Citadel station! :)

I backed Night Dive's Kickstarter for the reboot and was so happy when they course corrected! But for them to go out of their way, as a seeming thank you/sorry to backers, and give us a source port is above and beyond. I can't wait to see the reboot!

I had not played SS1 (or 2 for that matter) until the Enhanced Edition came out awhile back. But despite it taking some getting used to I have to say it has become one of my top 10 games. I like it more than SS2, which I played AFTER SS1! (I'm finally getting around to playing the games I couldn't afford when I was a kid!)

I'm excited to see what mods and additional missions/episodes users...or even Night Dive...comes up with. I mean they own the IP now. They could totally make a whole new add on for SS1 and I'd buy it! On Kickstarter right now there are people raising hundreds of thousands for NES games - why not dev a new episode/mission?
My game won't even start. No error message or anything. Mine is a pretty standard Windows 10 x64 machine. i7 6700, 1080, 16 GB RAM, Z170-A Asus mobo, rock solid stable.
checked the first posted and made sure everything is up to date?

Hmm, per the registry I have Net Framework 4.72, but I don't show that I have MS Visual C++ Redistributable 2015, though I do have all kinds of other years, and also 2017 versions (both x86 and x64 versions). I wonder if I should uninstall 2017 versions, install 2015 versions and then reinstall the 2017 versions. I say this because recently for another game (Burnout Paradise Remastered on PC) there's been a bug that may be related to not having the 2015 versions installed per the Apps control panel.*

*Although I was under the impression that having a later version covered the earlier one.
Nope, nothing's worked. I've installed MS VC++ 2015, disabled Malwarebytes, made sure Net Framework is the right version, exited Geforce Experience, disabled Steam Overlay, updated my Nvidia drivers, the whole shebang. Literally can't even watch the intro movie. Sometimes Steam opens a little preliminary window like it's going to launch the game, then nothing happens.

Yes, I'm trying to run the Steam version. Only posting here because someone suggested I come to this thread to look for possible fixes.
