Although a lot of you do GOG's fighting for them it would still be interesting to hear their response to this topic.
I was just going to buy the game, but now I'll wait for a statement by a gog staffer regarding this
Yeah, I'd really like to see some blue text in here. It's tough cause I'm so happy with GoG for getting the game here, but this seems (to my layman's perspective anyhow) to have been handled very poorly.
Until I hear a response from GoG regarding this I am actively telling people to stay away from purchasing this title. As a long-time modder this kind of action is entirely despicable, especially after the rockpapershotgun interview where they claim these very mods aren't "good enough"!
Yeah. this is pretty shady, although I think it's Night Dive who are more to blame than GOG (who are just being their usual oblivious selves)

Night Dive isn't selling the game, however.

True enough. They may not be the most guilty, but they are the most responsible.
Well, GOG is selling System Shock 2, not a patch, so what is the problem?
I never seen anywhere that Dosbox or ScummVM people have issues with GOG releases.
If the patch-makers have problem with release, why don't they sue. It would be funny to see how would it go.
And GOG nowhere claimed patch as their own.

Dosbox and ScummVM people are credited. Authors of the authors of the various fixes used in the GOG SS2 release are.

GOG DID basically claim the fan-patches were not good enough so they made their own. Read here: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/02/13/many-questions-system-shock-2-comes-to-gog/

"Rambourg: There are some user-made mods out there which do phenomenal work on the game’s stability, but none of them were quite perfect, so we took the game to our expert techninjas to analyse and swat the remaining bugs. It was some work to get it done, but as this is a game that we’ve wanted to release for four-plus years, it was also definitely a labour of love. "

This guy didn't bother reading the OP =/

I think Righteous_Angel was just talking about you, Madmate.

Yes, actually, they explicitly did:

Kick (ND): Night Dive Studios secured the license to distribute the game, and made the initial modifications to allow the game to run on most current operating systems.

Rambourg (GoG): There are some user-made mods out there which do phenomenal work on the game’s stability, but none of them were quite perfect, so we took the game to our expert techninjas to analyse and swat the remaining bugs. It was some work to get it done, but as this is a game that we’ve wanted to release for four-plus years, it was also definitely a labour of love.

I believe there quote was perceived out of context.
And what context would that be?

Have you guys even tried to contact GOG staff about this?

I did, but I haven't gotten an answer yet. Besides, I hope this thread already constitutes "making contact".
