Do you have the VxMath.dll in your Syberia directory?
"Compatibility: also compatible with Windows 7 "
lol what a joke,
Totally same here, and I thought it's only me cuz there seem to be no way around it and no one complained even though u must hit this showstopper within first 10 minutes. That's third game in a row that's completely unplayable out-of-the-box. I did some google research on vxmath and it seems it's part of game's engine (Virtools). Given the nature of the crash it looks like some major bug (BUG) in core mathematical functions. Dunno if gog even patched the game, there's no usual "This game has been patched..." line although there are several patches out .
It's pure trial and error with gog nowadays :( . I tried compatibility modes, lowering details, lowering sound sample rates, disabling/enabling DEP, setting cpu affinity, fiddling with nHancer....zilch, same crash every time. I guess my major problem is i don't accept crappy solutions like "revert to nvidia driver v.(before i was even born)"...oh well, i try messing with retail cd later, provided i get it to install, and see what happens..
my configuration:
Win7 professional 64bit
Core i7 920
6GB ddr3 1600 mhz
asus P6T SE
X-fi
geforce 9800 gtx+
driver 196.21 (there are 197.13 tho but i expect it be the same)
I can't believe gog tested this on w7 x64 and actually played it through, is there anyone who got past the first bridge on w7??

Nemo: ... is there anyone who got past the first bridge on w7??

Yep, me.
Win7 Ultimate 64bit, GTX 295 with the 195.62 drivers
Finally downloaded and installed gog's Syberia and played a bit last night, and i'm not getting that crash. And i pretty much went to every location on Valadilene.
I am however getting some instances where when changing from one screen to the next, Kate's model just stands at the edge of the screen flickering and she won't move anymore. Maybe it's AA messing up the transitions or something else, didn't spend enough time on it to figure it out.

i'm getting model flicker too but that's no biggie, duh i give up, tried several more tricks (vxmath.dll from retail is identical), still no go. I'm not into downgrading to 195.62 :(.
I'll just use desperate overkill..VirtualBox + WinXPsp3 combo :D ,i'll keep u posted how it went

Well, at my end it's kind of a biggie as i have to alt tab out and kill the game :(
I'll upgrade my drivers to the latest available during the weekend, we'll see how that goes.

ouch, for me it's enough to hit esc and move mouse so menu entries appear, so can get it to save and then load to cause the damn redraw, it's fine from there, dunno
i even tried to replace vxmath with newer one (v2.5) from syberia 2 :D but i also had to replace accompanying dlls and from there it's standard entry point drivel, virtualboxed winxp might be best solution for both of us then :)

Since you can't get out of the inn on account of the crash you get, it's possible that the flickering + lock up i'm getting it's more prone to happen in other locations. I got it on screen transitions on the main street and also on the path to the cave. When it happened, pressing ESC didn't do anything :(
But i didn't really looked into it last night, wasn't really in the mood to troublleshoot stuff. If nothing works, i guess i'll just install it on a XP machine, untill a proper fix comes up.
Yep, Windows 7 x64 - crashes at the bridge every time. Used every compatibility setting known to man, ran it elevated - all the usual.
No dice.
I bet it's a Bink problem. It's always a Bink problem :(
actually i think not, i replaced bink lib with much newer one from syberia 2 when i was experimenting, same old thing...
VirtualBox is also no-go, it emulates only dx8+ and ofc this game is dx7 so it won't run...well...that's all folks, game over....move along now :D
finally got it working :), just installed new 197.13 drivers and wadya know, it no longer crashes, also flickering is gone (even with forced supersampling + anizo). Seems it has major issues only with certain recent nvidia driver versions.....

Yshinozuka: Do you have the VxMath.dll in your Syberia directory?

Yes, version 2.0.0.47.
This kinda takes the "good" out of Good Old Games. The Syberia page on GOG does say it's compatible with Win 7.

Awesome! Was kinda putting off installing new drivers untill tomorrow, but i guess i'll go ahead and do it now. Thanks !

you're kinda brave to use those right? :)
