A new update for Syberia seems to download properly, Windows asks if I want the app to install, I say Yes, and it promptly fails

Edit: I have tried uninstall and reinstall it and can't get that to work either. This seems to be a similar problem to my other post: https://www.gog.com/forum/the_7th_guest_series/the_11th_hour_does_not_install

Both of these seem to be a problem with the scriptInterpreter.

I have the same problem, except it's on a fresh install rather than an update. A Windows UAC dialog pops up and asks if I want to let "scriptInterpreter" run as admin, I click yes, and then get the error message "Install failed (E2)".

Am running Windows 11, if that makes any difference.
same problem, I have taken out a ticket as well but no one has gotten back to me as yet

Same here, Win11 and all other software up to date, other gog update work fine.
Same here.

I had to use the backup installer which worked - leading to a problem with the game not supporting the resolution of my laptop.

I just wanna play Syberia :(
I have the same issue. Syberia update fails in a loop. It's really annoying. Still no response from GOG :(

Regarding resolution, maybe lowering your screen resolution might help. I've been playing this for 8 yrs. and recently had the same problem. This worked for me.
Unfortunately, Windows 11 is not supported by the game, which is also shown on the product page.

guessing because windows 11 is too new, there is no current plans to MAKE it compatible. Oh well, gotta find another work around I guess! Thanks for answering!
I have had Windows 11 installed for months and just played Syberia 1 and 2 completely in Jan/Feb this year. I had one problem regarding my 1440p 27" screen in Sy. 1 and temporarily changing the screen res. to 1080p allowed it to run.

how did you get it to run properly?
My apologies - I forgot that I had tried a couple tweeks. I found this one which was offered by GOG as a possible solution, and worked for me. If I could find it, I would just point to it, but I can't so I'll reproduce it (I copied it at first). It's actually much simpler than it looks.

Game does not launch - Intel 10th gen CPU or newer:
Since the 10th generation of Intel i-series processors, there is an error in the calculation of the OpenSSL instructions, which Intel describes more fully here:
https://software.intel.com/content/www/us/en/develop/articles/openssl-sha-crash-bug-requires-application-update.html

Until this will be resolved, you might want to try to follow this safe workaround:
- Press WinKey+R to open Run window. In it paste:

SystemPropertiesAdvanced

Press Ok.

Next click on Environment Variables...

In the lower frame, System Variables, press New:

And in the fields, paste these values:

Variable Name:
OPENSSL_ia32cap

Variable value:
~0x20000000

Press Ok and close the Environment Variables window.
Note: Reboot required to allow running affected game(s) from Galaxy.

tried all of this, nothing worked, it still wont. guess we just have to wait for a compatibility patch or something, if there ever is one (it is much too late to revert bac kto an older version of windows for me)
OK, in my previous post I mentioned doing a couple tweeks. Here is the other. I didn't think this was the one that worked, but it can be tried without doing any damage.

Go to the Syberia 2 install folder and locate the file named d3d8.ini and open with notepad or something similar. You can re-save it under a different name if you wish for backup if you feel uncomfortable making this next change, but it is simple and can be easily undone.
For my installation, there are only three lines in there, as follows (the last one is just one long cmd and comment):

FPSLimit = 0
ForceWindowedMode = 0 // activates windowed mode.
Direct3D8DisableMaximizedWindowedModeShim = 0 // Used to fix fullscreen issues for d3d8 games on windows 10. Don't use with ForceWindowedMode.

I changed the first one to FPSLimit = 57, saved, and started the game again. I know it says Windows 10, but I tried it anyway. Reboot not req'd.

I also realize this topic says Fails to Install so hopefully I'm not derailing it.

I have no such file in my syberia 1 folder (not sure what syberia 2 has to do with it other than plot) Should I just create one?
