Hi guys,

We put up new installers for each language and updated the game on the PC side to version 1.3. Each language has its own separate installer instead of relying on the old "English installer + language pack" method :)

Changes for version 1.3:

Windows 8 - Stronghold HD now runs in Direct Draw compatibility mode on Windows 8 which means the scrolling is a bit smoother.

Intro credits - Fixed pause on the Stronghold HD logo screen.

Hopefully, this new version will no longer delete the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers
and all it's values
when you uninstall the game ;-)

Will the "Mac version" get updated as well? Scrolling is pretty laggy as well when playing in one of the higher resolutions (higher than what the original game supported).

It will be updated ASAP :)

Hopefully this will be sooner rather than later :)
Could someone verify whether or not the Italian setup file 'setup_stronghold_hd_italian_2.2.0.5.exe.' is corrupt?

It appears to have only a 1/4 of the data and I've grabbed it using the downloader, I.E and Chrome to different drives.

Can someone from GOG.com, or alternatively someone who has installed and uninstalled the new version of this game please confirm or deny this either way? Would be nice to keep track of these type of bugs/issues somewhere publicly visible and organized just to know about them and keep track of their status, as well as a convenient place for GOG to look for pending issues that need addressing when working on a new update - and fold in a bunch of other minor simple fixes at the same time. :)

Yes. I contacted the Gog support 2 days ago to notify them about this issue and nothing has been done.
EDIT: and it's fixed. Good job!

I finally uninstalled this new version and I can confirm that this issue has been fixed. Only the Stronghold value was deleted from the key.

Nice job, thanks!

Any chance for Stronghold Crusader to be fixed in order to work on Windows 8 by default without having to resort to this method?

http://www.gog.com/forum/stronghold_series/windows_8_and_stronghold_hd

It worked pretty well for me, but having to use it was kinda surprising.

UPDATE: I installed Stronghold HD and realised that I didn't need the wrapper at all. It worked perfectly for me without it--I used the wrapper at first when Stronghold Crusader Extreme HD refused to run- but then I installed Stronghold HD vanilla and forgot to copy the wrapper to the installation folder.

The game didn't run at first, and the only thing I had to change was the compatibility settings to Windows XP Service Pack 3 -no wrapper needed-.

This works for both Stronghold HD (2001 game) and Stronghold Crusader Extreme HD (2002 game). None of them need the DirectDraw wrapper.
