NOTE: GoG seems to have fixed it themselves. Check your GoG library for an updated installer.

winmm.dll (the wrapper to play CD audio from files on the disk) causes the games to crash on Windows 10.
You could get around it by deleting the dll, but then you get no music.

Here's a replacement I created: http://www.mediafire.com/download/s5lypg970azzdmp/fixed_winmm_win10.zip

Extract them into the game folder, let it overwrite the old winmm.dll.

For XvT, don't forget to extract it into the Balance of Power folder as well.

THanks

This version fix also works on other game using the same wrapper :)
For some reasons, on my system, it just stop the music from playing...
This didn't work for me; it still crashes to the desktop as soon as I enter a mission, and says "XWING95.EXE has stopped working." Any idea what else I could try? I also tried deleting the game's original winmm.dll file, but that didn't help. This didn't happen until I downloaded the newly updated version of XWing from my account. It's really frustrating, since I wanted to get TIE Fighter & X-Wing Alliance since they're on sale today, but I'm not gonna waste money on something that doesn't work!

I tried this after downloading the most up to date X-Wing 1998 installer from GoG, but it still doesn't work--Crashes as soon as the game tries to launch a mission.

If you have the most recent version I think you don't need this dll. GoG fixed it themselves later.

Newer installers now include a wrapper (ddraw.dll) that doesn't support 3D acceleration so if it's enabled the game will crash. Disabling hardware acceleration should solve that.

Enabling 3D acceleration is a bit trickier.

First you have to download gerwin's 3D patch and patch the game. Then you have to delete ddraw.dll. That wrapper also emulates the mouse cursor and GOG disabled the game's own cursor so without the wrapper the cursor goes missing. To fix that start the game from the game's launcher and enable "software cursor".

Finally hardware acceleration has issues on some modern systems so you may need to use a different wrapper e.g. dgVoodoo.

Hi, this DLL used to work at random (sometimes playing audio tracks when it should, sometimes not), now I'm not getting any music from it in any game I'm trying. Any idea what that may be caused by?

I think the issue started with the Windows 10 anniversary update.

Here's a fix:

Sadly this one doesn't do it for me either. Admittedly I've not tried it with X-Wing 98 but rather Rainbow Six (GOG version) and Metal Fatigue (retail version) as well as House of the Dead (retail version) which used to play music fine on Windows 7 with GOG's old Winmm.dll. The games start just fine, though. I presume nothing has changed about the DLL looking for OGG files in the application's subfolder "music" and titled "Track##.ogg"?

Jedi Knight's music broke recently on Windows 10 as well and there it was fixable by renaming the exe itself. JK also uses GOG's winmm.dll.
Good day every one, I am interesed to buy Incoming rage 1998, I am not interesed for Incoming forces. I got Win 10 and i got many old games on Steam... and all work nice. So some one can tell me if the game Incoming rage 1998 works right now on Win 10 without Problems, if not, are there solutions yet? Gog is the only site where i found Incoming.
Thanks.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

LOL I've tried about a dozen links in about a dozen threads (between Steam and gog) and all of them were broken links or the DL wasn't working but this one WORKED.

ADDED: Well... the link worked... LOL... the file... not so much. It launched.. but no music. Same as if I just deleted the winmm.dll file.

I soooo hate Microsoft.

PSA, be careful with the most recent versions, DEGE will update the DDRAW drivers as soon as he finishes up testing D3D9 Support

2.54 with MAX FHD, vsync and Stretched screen is ok, and you can use DX11 Reshade to fix some stuff later on
If you need a Version of winmm.dll which works with Windows 10 - go to this Github page
github.com/mohzy83/ogg-winmm and download it there!
Tested with SW Jedi Knight, but should also work with X-Wing or XWing vs. Tie Fighter.
