MisterBlack: Here's some info for anyone confused on how to get this game working in widescreen (1920x1080) and have the movies work as well.

This is what I did step by step using the Universal Widescreen Patcher (Not the Flawless Widescreen program):

Homepage: http://www.wsgf.org/article/star-wars-knights-old-republic

1. If you already have unsuccessfully patched the game restore your backup of the original EXE if you haven't already, if you don't have a backup on hand then uninstall and reinstall the game.

2. Make sure you ran the game once before patching to create your default configuration.

3. Download the Universial Widescreen patcher from the site above if you haven't already

4. Download the Hud Correction files for your resolution, the one I specifically used since I want to run 1920x1080 is 1920x1080 (Updated by nix3r)

5. Extract uniws.zip anywhere and open patches.ini

6. Scroll down or search for the section labeled [Star Wars: KOTOR (1024x768 interface)]

7. From that section remove these lines and save the file. This will fix the black screen when viewing movies in game:

;movies edit 1
p4modfile=swkotor.exe
p4undofile=swkotorc.undom1
p4sig=800200007515813DD8D17800E001
p4sigwild=00000000000000
p4xoffset=0
p4yoffset=12
p4occur=1
;movies edit 2
p5modfile=swkotor.exe
p5undofile=swkotorc.undom2
p5sig=80020000C7442410E001
p5sigwild=0000000000
p5xoffset=0
p5yoffset=8
p5occur=1

8. Run uniws.exe, choose Star Wars: KOTOR (1024x768 interface), doesn't matter what resolution you ultimately plan on running, that's the one you need.

9. Browse to your KOTOR installation in the game installation folder section. Afterwards, set your screen resolution in the New Resolution section, I made mine 1920 for screen width and 1080 for height. Once you are finished go ahead and hit the patch button and exit the program.

10. Extract your fixed hud files. (mine being kotor-1920x1080_updated.rar) Extract them to your KOTOR/override directory, under the default installation path, that would be: C:\GOG Games\Star Wars - KotOR\Override

11. Edit swkotor.ini (This is in your game's installation directory) . We need to change the resolution still since it won't be able to be changed in game to the widescreen resolution and the patcher doesn't actually seem to change it for us. Find the section [Graphics Options] in swkotor.ini and set your resolution with the Width and Height variables. You can also set your refresh rate as well here.

12. (Optional) I recommend disabling the Frame Buffer in game. If it's enabled on my AMD Radeon 270x the game seems to lock up before it finishes loading the first level with Frame Buffer and anti aliasing enabled. You can disable the Frame Buffer in the advanced graphics options in game or disable it in the swkotor.ini file in the [Graphics Options] section by setting Frame Buffer=0 . This may not be an issue on nVidia cards so I would probably only change this if you have any issues.

Hope this solves some of the issues some people have been having with the game, these are my findings and experience so far. Once the game is setup though, it seems to run great has no issues so far.

I used UniSW but the 1920 x 1080 entry in the graphic settings is only ghostly. Can mark it and click on OK but has any function.

Have already installed 1920 x 1080 WS GUI mods.
After getting the game to run in 1440p and using 1440p Upscaled Videos and 1440p HUD files, is there any way to increase the text size? I can still read everything, but would rather have larger subtitles and response selection to be easier on my eyes.

Ominousrobot: Thanks for your hard work bignick277, your post certainly made my experience better playing this game. I have created a mega links for the video files so you can clean out your google drive.

1080p Upscaled Videos
1080p HUD files

1440p Upscaled Videos
1440p HUD files

ValhallasAshes: Awesome, Thank you Ominousrobot. It really is appreciate. I'm going to leave my links up for a couple more months until I need the space back. But when I do take them down, I will update the links in my post to use your links instead and credit you for re-hosting the files. Could you also host the Grass Fix as well as that one will be important for many players. While it's not important in the main city sections, once you hit lower taris and especially Dantooine and Kashyyk, that fix will be very important. Thanks again.

And thank you for not using a file hosting service that charges for downloads or tries to manipulate people into paying for faster downloads. I generally take issue with those types of sites, so thank you for not using one of those sites.
Thank you for your hard work, Mister Black, ValhallasAshes and Ominousrobot. Everything works great. Hats off for your efforts!

Thx for these instruction! It helped me a lot!
I don't get why Knights of the Old Republic doesn't support higher resolutions and widescreen, because Neverwinter Nights does... and it's a year OLDER than Knights of the Old Republic.

And both games are made by the same developer (BioWare).
Making KotOR work under *any* widescreen mod will be the death of me.
First I tried Flawless Widescreen, which caused my save files to get corrupted (they will be titled "OLD SAVE FILE" or something like that and won't work), it's also a PITA to get it working (game doesn't recognize it sometimes therefore you won't get the options for higher resolutions in-game) = I don't recommend to anyone!
Then I tried getting UniWS to work, but I have a 1366x768 monitor and there's no such official setting for that. The guide tells you to patch it to an alternative resolution (1530x864) and then download the corresponding HUD files - BUT that also doesn't work (messes up the UI entirely).
To my knowledge there isn't any alternative solution for my problem...

EDIT: NVIDIA Control Panel>Display>Adjust desktop size and position>2. Apply the following settings
Choose "No scaling" under the Scaling tab; and under Perform scaling on, choose "GPU"
This way the 1024x768 resolution won't be stretched to fit the screen but instead have proper scaling with two black lines on both sides of the screen. I prefer this and hope that someone finds this info useful.

I've pretty much given up on fixing this game UI issue and went back to 800x600 res. It ain't so bad once you get used to whole thing, overall its better than current solution with tiny as hell text and UI. I'm coming from playing final fantasy 9 moguri mod with no widescreen option so maybe that's why those black bars doesn't bother me anymore.
Hi everyone, after almost 4 years of managing to keep them available, I'm afraid I need to take down the files from this post:

https://www.gog.com/forum/star_wars_knights_of_the_old_republic_series/widescreen/post111

I'm sorry, but I need the space back. I've updated the links in the post to reflect the alternative download links @Ominousrobot has made and kept available so everyone can still get access to these files for KotOR. Please make sure to extend a thank you to @Ominousrobot for continuing to host these files.

Thank you @Ominousrobot. I really appreciate you keeping these files available for download.

It looks like all of the links are dead for the grass fix. I'd like to have grass fix and I'd gladly host them.

To the community - I have tested Ominousrobots links and all of them appear to still be working, except for the grass fix. Thankfully, the grass fix is a really small file compared to the videos. So while I did have to remove the files for download, the grass fix is so tiny as to be inconsequential to my google drive capacity. So I've re-uploaded it and replaced the "Grass Fix" link in my original post:

https://www.gog.com/forum/star_wars_knights_of_the_old_republic_series/widescreen/post111

I will leave the grass fix download in my google drive on an "assumed" permanent basis. I can't guarantee that I won't have to take it down for some unknown reason in the future. But for the meantime, I will leave it up for as long as it is of use to people.

P.S.
@TheEmperorArt - Don't ask people for files, promising to host them when you clearly have no intention of following through on your commitment. I honored your request within 17 hours of your post. It's now been two weeks since and you've done nothing. No response. No hosting for the community. Not even something so basic as a simple thank you. The most basic of courtesies. I don't like having my time wasted and I especially don't like being lied to. If you make any other requests of me in the future, I will be ignoring you out of hand.
