It did sound like a mistake, but I'm still waiting for confirmation.

No but it could take weeks or months (if at all) to get a reply from Activision.

My SoF Plus download seems bugged. When extracting the zip generated by the cmd file, I end up with 3 files being corrupt and thus not extracted at all. !

Try redownloading from any one of the mirrors here, from mine to SoFisLife's sounds like a bugged download, which happens from time to time.

what feels really bonkers is a request to remove files that contains no copyrighted material

especially when customers should go at activision's throat in first place for keep selling a game (and releasing it in a new platform) that contains notiriously known severe vulnerabilities anyway, and then denying third-party fixing of such vulnerabilities

this one is not just stupid, but anticonsumer and shady at least

To install SOFPLUS

1. Download the zip file provided at http://sof1.megalag.org/sofplus/ make sure that you downloaded (at the time of writing) "sofplus-client-patch-20140531-gog-kb4571756.zip"
2. Extract the contents of the zip file to your SOF install folder.
3. Run "sofplus-client-patch.cmd" it will generate a zip file in the install folder
4. open this new zip file
5. extract everything to your sof folder and allow it over write everything.

It should be installed.

Edit: 2023-09-02

In 2022 GOG released an update for the version of SOF 1 sold here that fixed some issue with a Windows 10 Update: SOF+ was also updated to support this patch: sofplus-client-patch-20140531-gog-kb4571756.zip

There is an updated version of SOF PLUS at the address linked above.
the patch filename has also been updated.
