I am sorry if I am misunderstanding this, but from what I can tell Dragonfall = Return + 5 missions and new abilities/achetypes? Is there a point to get both Return and Dragonfall or is everything in just Dragonfall (are the campaigns different)? I am just getting the impression from reading the store page that Dragonfall has everything. If i buy both does Dragonfall give Return new units and spells or is it more like an entirely separate game?

Dragonfall is a separate campaign from Returns. It used to be DLC for Returns, but has since stopped being sold as DLC, and is now a standalone game. The five extra missions boasted in the marketing are referring to content that was not present in the game's initial release as DLC, not in comparison to Returns. This is why the game is referred to as a "Director's Cut".

Dragonfall and Dead Man's Switch (SRR campaign) are two completely different campaigns, with no connection of any kind. Latter is based in Seattle, former in Berlin. You can't even transfer characters from one to the other. Dragonfall is longer and generally much better of the two. It used to be sold as a DLC for SRR. Not anymore. Difference of five missions is between Dragonfall DLC and standalone version: Dragonfall Director's Cut. Combat has also been completely overhauled in the standalone version, and for the better. If you decide to only buy one, I would recommend going with Dragonfall Director's Cut. SRR is also good. It has a good story, but it's more linear experience. It also doesn't have interesting companions, unlike Dragonfall, which features some of the best written NPCs.

I would buy both - and did - but if you can only get one, go with Dragonfall Director's Cut.
Thanks to you both for your replies.
Everyone says this game is awesome, and in the style of Jagged Alliance, and it kinda is, with far better graphics and sound though...

so i bought/got it at the mutator promo yesterday (oct 8th) for 3.19 euro

i installed and began to play, it is a very great game BUT... its not like fallout and jagged alliance

you can zoom in and out turn around and more of those things you could'n do in the classic JA games and Fallout
so i uninstalled it cause its not like the previous named games.

I like to play simple games, no 3d, no zooming in, no extras like these games nowadays have.
I dont mind if my chars walk to the end and the after 1 second or so they are all of a sudden at next sector :D, i like that kind of playing.

So i wont be buying the rest of the shadowrun, too bad cause it is very good.
If other games come around that play and look in the style of the original JA classics and Fallout (before it all had to turn 3d)(even c&c/red alert turned 3D and i think its horrible)

I go for bitmapped engines all the way.

I am considering getting Shadowrun Returns in the sale right now, but a lot of reviews mentioned checkpoint saves which I think would be very aggravating.

However, one review mentioned that the issue was fixed in the Dragonfall DLC. Does Dragonfall have save-anywhere? If so, since the DLC is no longer available, is there any way to enable the new features like save-anywhere in the original game's campaign?

Shadowrun Returns have quick saves and manual saves, game have been updated alongside the DLC and even after that. Buy Returns if you want bring back the feeling of Shadowrun from SNES game, there is a lot of references and overall introduction to world of Shadowrun and it's mechanics, slang, gameplay, shadowrunners etc. In some way Returns can be considered as interactive, story driven noir vs cyberpunk movie in a game.

Dragonfall Director's Cut is more focused on action and npc/social interaction while Shadowrun Returns is story over gameplay but still can be messed up if you spend your funds incorrectly.

Thanks! :) I haven't played the original Shadowrun games, but I got the above impression based on what I saw which is why I'm interested in Shadowrun Returns. I'm very glad to hear that the game has been updated to add manual saving even without the DLC. Dragonfall sounds really good too (and probably is better) but I'll pick it up later after I've played this one first.

When you finish Shadowrun Returns, do not forget there are free campaigns available on Nexus : http://www.nexusmods.com/shadowrunreturns/ . It adds a lot of replay value to your purchase. :)

There is a thread about some campaigns : http://www.gog.com/forum/shadowrun_series/recommend_good_shadowrun_modules. I personnaly recommend Antnumbra and A Stich in Time.

Awesome, thanks! :D I've just favorited them for later.
Checkpoint saves were removed in favor of standard save/load in one of the patches for SRR and were never part of Dragonfall. You can even save during combat (just not mid-animation), which many games don't allow.
Saving in mid-combat should DEFINITELY be more common. It is such an important feature!!!
Myself, I always felt the checkpoint-based saves didn't hamper the game in any way, it was just a more hardcore way of playing. Too much saving-loading just makes stuff too easy for these kinds of games.

Anyway, now it's save fiesta for all tastes.
I must have impulsively bought both Returns and the Dragonfall DLC at some point, I didn't remember I'd done so till the director's cut of Dragonfall appeared in my game list.

The assets are mostly there in the Dragonfall director's cut for the Dead Man's Switch campaign. A small amount of file copying from the Returns install to the DFDC install, makes Dead Man's Switch selectable from DFDC campaign selection menu.

So I've finally gotten around to playing Dead Man's Switch, with the easier to use DFDC user interface. No idea if i'll encounter a big bug at some point, but so far - so good. I did start out playing Dragonfall first, but I read that DMS is a more linear module with an emphasis on world introduction, so I'll play through that first.

If you're looking for sth like Fallout (I guess you mean 1 and 2), have you considered Wasteland 2? I have not played it and it does seem to have its flaws, still if it just was a bit cheaper, I would probably buy it.

It's surprising to read that characters cannot be transferred. Does this go in general? How do user generated content campaigns feel?

Concerning Shadowrun Returns, I played it on Android and really really liked it. I did not try Dragonfall, though.
