It's time for another Hidden Gem from the PC gaming history. This week we're getting a closer look at a point and click adventure game Runaway: A Road Adventure.
The revival of classic point and click adventure games is a fact. [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/runaway_a_road_adventure]Runaway: A Road Adventure, when it was released back in 2003 also revived the genre for gamers as the golden era of the point and clicks was long gone. The game made the transition into three dimensions without sacrificing the classic cartoonish "feel" and the good old point-and-click control method. Pete Davison had lots of fun while getting Brian Basco, the main character from the game, out of trouble. If you haven't tried it, now's your chance as the game is $2.00 off until Sunday, November 8 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.
I love this game, and I think that it still looks gorgeous, those hand drawn backdrops are beautiful.

Yes, they are. But i HATE the puzzles. There is no logic behind them. Just random combining of all items in the inventory with themselves. And i hate hotspots, which appear AFTER you made something, but without knowing, that this action triggers a hotspot to appear.
No, really. I HATE this game. Gave up after the first chapter, which i couldnt solve without a walkthrough.

Yeah, I'm going to have to agree. I couldn't stand how often there would be an item that I knew I would have to pick up eventually, but the game wouldn't let me because I didn't trigger the right event that would make the game allow me to interact with the object.
The graphics are great and it got some good reviews from adventure game places, but I couldn't stand a lot of the puzzles. But it's pretty cheap, so some people might want to try it out anyway.
Too bad I already own it. Buy it NOW. You won't regret it.
TBH, I think this game has already gotten way more attention than it deserves. The graphics are lovely, but everything that counts absolutely stinks.

Don't be fooled - this game is all sorts of terrible. Runaway may play like an old LucasArts title (worse, actually), but unlike the classic point & clickers of yesteryear, the writing is poor, the puzzles are atrocious and the characters are beyond irritating, partly due to the grating voice overs.
But if you want a game where nothing you do makes any sense - and you want to play as a goofy, unlikeable main character, then Runaway just might be the game for you!
A million thumbs down from me.
I like it. I guess the game is a bit too complex for some people.
I really enjoyed this game! The puzzles were great and mostly logical. And I love games that are logical in another way too: if you don't know what for you would need an item, you can't pick it up! Why would you pick up all the carbage lying around? The game gives hints just enough and is enjoyably leisure.
The graphics are great and the story is quite fun. The game is highly recommended for all adventure fans!
I'm waiting to get my hands on the sequel!
