saderfer: Little story:

I bought the game recently, in the wallet spanking summer sale. I was hopping to revive that experience I had when playing RB6 on psx so many springs ago. Unfortunately, the game didn't launch... snif-snif. I know that this is price to pay for trying to play and old game on a new machine, and I also know that tweaking and hardcore 1337 file editing is the common solution.
So I came to the GOG forums to find some guidance. And I found some... Apparently, you can make the game run with DxWnd, but it didn't work for me. Some other guy said something about registry editing, where you can force "fullscreen off", and other options as well, and that helped the game run.
However, the game ran on software render, and in a window only... Needless to say, it looked quite bad, pixelated and with low fps.
But then I remembered that on the net exist this wild dude called dege. This dude makes a voodoo wrapper called dgvoodoo.
Now I hear you saying: "Yo! you are stooopid! everyone is so stooopid! RainbowSix doesn't have glide support! that's so stooopid!". But here is thing... this wild dude is crazy! And in the last version of his wrapper, he included a DirectX1 to 7 wrapper! That is so insane! He is probably a demigod or some crazy thing like that, there is no other human rational explanation.

The Fix:

1) Make a fresh installation of the game and DON'T EDIT A THING!!! (yes, I'm shouting). This means, uninstall any previous installation of the game, and delete the folder where the game was installed if it's still there after uninstalling it.
2) Download the latest version of dgvoodoo from his official web site: http://www.dege.freeweb.hu/
3) Open the download zip file and extract inside the game folder ,where RainbowSix.exe is, the following files: dgVoodooSetup.exe, and from inside the MS folder, DDraw.dll and D3Dlmm.dll. So at the end every file is located in the same folder.
4) Launch dgVoodooSetup.exe and press the button that is located at the top and left of the "Add" button (the one that's .\ )
5) Click the DirectX tab and set the options you want, like MSAA, Bilinear filtering, etc... and press "Apply". (I have "Force bilinear filtering" ticked, max VRAM, all the "Behavior" options ticked, 8x MSAA, my screen Resolution and all the "Miscellaneous" options unticked).
6)Launch the game and assassinate as many baddies as you like.

Extra notes:

It seems that it doesn't work under Windows 10.
I have tried changing the resolution using Regedit to a higher one, but it crash the game every time, with this fix or any other.
The game runs quite well, fullscreen and with over 9000 fps! well... more like constant 60 fps. But it has a small issue with alpha textures. It doesn't make, however, the game unplayable.
Remember to have DDraw.dll and D3Dlmm.dll in the same folder as RainbowSix.exe and dgVoodooSetup.exe
That wild and crazy dege demigod dude is so awesome. His voodoo wrapper allowed my Mobility Radeon 7500 to play NFS 2 SE at max speed!

I hope this fix do work for you
Cheers!
I tried everything you did, I put it in the directory, in a clean install, and I get a fatal error when the DDraw.dll is in, but if I take that out, I get a black screen then crash, but with it in it won't even attempt..Any ideas, Windows 8.1
Sorry to leave you guys hanging for so long.

tjg92: The wrapper doesn't work under Windows 10. Apparently, Win 10 doesn't have DDraw.dll anymore, and it use something else as a fall back.

maxstrax: Oh, oh, oh, oh... so you think that your little stinky machine is special because it has an nVidia cards, eh? Well Mr.Nviada-fan-boy... let me get something straight with you! You are right! XD
nVidia does have a much better support for older API than AMD. So I'm glad that everything is working for you.

dirtyharry50: Yeah, your problem is that nVidia has worst support for older API than AMD. LOL! Just kidding...
The game should run natively under WinXP, so if it's not working for you, that means something is missing in your computer. Remember that the first thing the game does when launching it, is to open a video file. If you don't have to codecs installed (there is a installer for those codecs somewhere in game folder). Or, you could try deleting the intro video.

xXJOSH7417Xx: Let me say first, that's a silly nick, no need to shout your nick, mate. Anyway...
Remember that you need both DDraw.dll and D3Dlmm.dll together inside the game folder. Can you please post a screen or the text of that error message?

Cheers

spacekiltro: I do think so, because I'm not trying anything.
Have you heard about a thing called "false positive"?
The program is a wrapper, that means it intercept DirectX and DDraw calls and translate them. That's why shitty antivirus might consider it a threat.
Have you checked the site with some other antivirus?

Here are the ScanURL.net results.
And here are the Virustotal.com results.
And according to sitecheck.sucuri.net, only norton has the site blacklisted. Check the "Blacklist Status" tab.

Also, there is no need to be an asshole mate.
Cheers
I didn't mean to sound like an asshole, so sorry if I came across as one, but I'm a bit cautious of sites after the Steam forums got absolutely bombed earlier this year by phishers and other problematic accounts, spreading links across that just lured you into account traps.

It may be a false positive, but for now I'll just skip to Rainbow Six 3.

Don't worry about it, I think that it's actually a good practice what you are doing.
Not everyone scan links nor does have an antivirus, and dealing with the aftermath can be a real pain.

In any case, Rainbow Six 3 is waaaaaaaaaaay better, and that's no "imho". That's the opinion of every human being with rational though. Besides, you can play it on DX7 hardware (like the Radeon 7500).

Cheers mate

I learned the hard way what happens when you aren't careful, when someone in my family tried to get some LEGO games for free and ended up downloading some fraudulent version of AVG. It blocked every single application as "infected" and every time it did so, it would pop up its own client asking for you to buy the full version. It was a real pain in the ass to remove, and slowed down an already slow Vista laptop. It actually led me down the dark path of console gaming...

Also, I've been playing R6 3 without a problem on an R9 280, which was actually rather surprising to me. I haven't run into a single issue other than menus still being at 480p, which is a pretty minor complaint. It would probably even work with the Q45 graphics my jury-rigged Lenovo computer started with, but I don't EVER want to re-enable that. It can stay forgotten, I'm done with that weaksauce.

Sorry I kind of jumped to conclusions back there.

tjg92: Thanks for the response. I tried deleting that ddraw dll and that didn't seem to do anything. I remember reading somewhere to change winmm.dll to winmm.dll2, so I tried that and now the game seems to work. I still have ddraw.dll deleted and I haven't tried adding it back in to see if that does anything, but maybe I'll try it later. I'll post again later after I've actually played the game a bit to let you know if it's all hunky dory or not. But I managed to wander around a training mission for a bit. :) I'm going to have to do something about the mouse sensitivity, though, because I think mine is at 400 dpi and it felt like 2000 haha
I'm still not able to launch the game in Windows 10. Could you help me?

I got it working in Windows 10 with a combination of the OP and moving the .dll file from the system32 directory over. Sound working fine. Good work OP

supersayin17: dude, the download legit gave me malware
Hello supersayin17

After reading your post, I immediately downloaded the latest file from the link that I provided. (D3DCOMPILER_43 and also dgVoodoo v2.5 09.01.2016)
No malware

I formatted my PC about a month ago, it's a freshly installed copy of Windows 7 Home Premium; as Anti-Virus I have BitDefender Internet Security 2016 and just to be sure about the file, I also downloaded Spybot - Search & Destroy 2.4.

Here are the results from virustotal.com
On my part, I couldn't find any malware.

Lets try to find out what happen to you, by doing some good old trouble shooting.
First, what operating system do you have.
Second, what type of protection your computer has (antivirus, antimalware, etc)
Third, most important of all... what's the name of the malware that you found.

Don't worry little dude, we will fix this!
Cheers

So I tried the voodoo set up but it completely freezes my computer, while my anti virus program classifies it all as malware as well, it's just a bunch of issues.
