---Quakespasm spiked with mods and maps v2.7---

Version 2.7 is now up, with just some fixes, new versions of ironwail and vkQuake and an updated Quake Copper mod.

Besides the googledrive links i did create a page at the internet archive which will provide a torrent link besides a (slow) direct download link.

Have fun!

=====================================================================

Currently there is a plethora of maps and episodes within made from several famous community releases, interesting findings with many high rated entries from https://quaddicted.com, just have a look at the README. I threw in some startup gear for multiplayer, too, but nothing over the edge.

Extracted the folder with the gamefolder and the bonusfolder will have a size of over  23,1 GB (unpacked, packed just 8.72 GB) full of wonder and content, so do not wait and load it, it will take a while!

The link and thread will be over there at reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/quake/comments/py715s/quakespasm_spiked_with_mods_and_maps_fanpack/

And here is the link to the HTML-Version of the Readme on Steam:

Here is the package on moddb.com:

=====================================================================

Torrent is possible via archive.org!

If you wish, you can also activate chunky mode (point sampled textures) in Arcane Dimensions by typing the alias "pixels" into the console.
Thank you for the info!
This is "far more easier" than editing the file. (For serious, console command which is saved is far more convenient!)
But what is the counter command and where can i find the documentation? (I must have overlooked that...)
I did add a new version.
Link Googledrive changed for the v 1.2.
I will add this in the next update but if you want and have problems with controllers, here you go:
(Load the masterfile and grab the txt, drop it into the mainfolder of the "quakespasm spiked"

- New gamecontrollerdb.txt, source corrected, this one is the correct one with readme, howto,
updates and stuff.
v1.3 kicked out.
I guess this version will stay a while till the next major source engine update or massive problems occure.
Saw some typos wrong in the readme but: Me tired now, me bed.

v1.4 is now upped.
Added Quake Copper with the Episodes that the creator lists on his page.
Added Quake Quoth.
And throw a new version of QuakeSpasm Spiked in there. (But seems only a small commit from the Github.)
Here and there a little bit of polish and fixing.
And i did make the readme more ugly!
Uploaded 1.41.
Better and lossless soundtrack, minor tweaks and additions.
Quakespasm has been pretty much replaced by vkquake.
But not for arcane dimensions.
Simonoc states this clearly. The mod is tailored around quakespasm spiked.
And that engine runs fairly well on every gaming pc.

But if sometime in the future this will change i will change to vkquake, too.

Here my question on moddb:

Hi there, amazing work!
Quick question: Is Quakespasm spiked still the way to go or can i use the new quakespasm version which is compatible with the dimension of the machine episode from the remaster?

Otherwise, can vkQuake run acrane dimensions as intended or are there downsides to Quakespasm spiked?

I would recommend playing Arcane Dimensions with ...
QSS for extra particles, weather effects and custom huds
VkQuake for classic particles, custom huds and Vulkcan performance
QS for good old fashioned Quake feel and looks
Remastered for Chaos mode with vanilla maps + RT lights!

What exactly are the weather effects in 'AD'?

The Forgotten Sepulcher has a thunder storm brewing in the distance when you play it with QS/VkQ clients. If you play the map with QSS the storm has arrived and is present in several locations of the map with weather particles and extra rain sound effects. Also more floor detail is shown when using the QSS client than others.

GenericJohnDoe, as far as I am informed, the 'vkQuake' engine, does not officially support the enhanced particle system, which the latest 'QSS' engine, does - although the 'vkQuake', does support custom 'Arcane Dimensions' HUDs.

We speak of 'vkQuake' version "1.10.0-beta3".

QSS is the best choice for GPUs that do not support Vulkan.

However I prefer classic particles because of much better performance and vanilla look. The enhanced particles in AD can be turned off. There is an article about it.

If I may suggest additions to your pack Genericjohndoe, I would recommend the following maps and mods.

Big AD maps:
Oxyblack Fortress
Imhotep's Legacy
Paradise Sickness
37th Relic Retrieval
Raven Keep
Candles of the Damned (this one is small)

All annual Christmas Jam mappacks

Honey theme:
Honey
Down the Gutter
Func Map Jam 1

Rubicon theme:
Alkaline
Rubicon Rumble Pack
Rubicon 2

Some classic id1 maps I personally like:
The Grim Outpost
The Dark Portal
Beyond Belief
I'm not sure but I suspect you used the old versions of Quoth and Realm of the Lost.

Quoth 2.2 is available here.

Realm of the Lost 1.13 is available on the same quaddicted page as version 1.0, just different link (same case with Rubicon Rumble Pack and few other mods, so be careful).

I wonder why you added music to AD from different version?

Hi PoNgO,

i will look into your sugestions and check the versions of quoth and realm of the lost.

The reason for the music from AD 1.7 in the 1.8 was that there was no more music in 1.8...
(The musician withdrew from 1.8).

I thought it would be a nice touch to have something specific for ad instead of the normal soundtrack.
(But i am still not sure if ad 1.8 chooses the same tracks as 1.7...)

Edit:

I changed quoth and realm of the lost, albeit i am sure that quoth was fine (I did just load all files from the mainpage of the author and applied the 2 patches to the original release.) Realm of the lost "should" be fine, too.
- But the upgraded files will be in my next update -

My mistake then. I thought it was Quoth 2.1 because in readme you provided a link to the old archived website instead of the new official one. Btw, there are some nice map packs on this new site.

I think i will put at least Rubicon and maybe some Honey into the next update, but i think i will freeze further singleplayer content, too. (As long as not some really really good stuff, from my personal point of view, shines its light onto my eyes.)

I will try to look more on the multiplayer part like ctf and so on. Maybe one or two or three additions here.

But honestly: I see this as a starter pack and with nearly 3 GB download it is now pretty huge.
And with Quake - if somebody hungers for more - it is fairly easy and ease to get more stuff thanks to quaddicted and moddb.

I will aim for 1.5 as last major version, presumably. The content then should be fairly rich and a good starting point to show of classic quake in 2021.

- Yes, maybe here and there i did not get the right spot for everybody but at least it is a broad pack. - ;)

Edit: Damn, there are some nice packs on that page... I - must - control - my - selfe -!
