Hello everyone,

For some reason I cannot access any of the new DLC features.
I re-downloaded the installers and reinstalled the game several times, cleared preference files etc etc, but for some reason the DLC does not get activated.

When I look in the log output (debug.txt) I see errors related to new things introduced with the Second Chances DLC.
Examples of these errors are;

---
BiographyGenerator reading bios...
BiographyGenerator error reading unknown Reputation 'Cook'
BiographyGenerator error reading unknown Reputation 'RAC'
BiographyGenerator error reading unknown Reputation 'Cleaner'
BiographyGenerator error reading unknown Reputation 'Craftsman'
BiographyGenerator error reading unknown Reputation 'Labourer'
---

---
String Data not found : ClothingColour
Error parsing colour hex '[SAFESTRING]'
---

I am not sure why the game is not recognizing the new content, nor have I found anyone mentioning having this problem. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hi again,

Prison Architect updated to The Pen 6447, so I figured trying to reinstall again.
For some reason the Second Chances DLC is just not working.
Does anyone else have this issue and/or a workaround?

Thanks.
Hi again,

I tried installing the windows version of the game with WINE, and there everything works, including the Second Chances DLC.
This leads me to believe there is something wrong with the linux installer(s) for this game.
I will be contacting support and hopefully find what's wrong.
Hi Zicxynum !

Too bad nobody else seems interested in this problem.

I'm on Linux too and don't intend to run any of the DLCs, but who knows after all, maybe one day... so I'm wondering, did you get an answer ?

Unfortunately, no.
I tried contacting support and all they came back with was the possibility of some library mistmatch, which is really not the problem because if it was, the game would have been crashing or acting weird.

My 'fix' was to run the windows version with WINE, which seems to work completely.
I tried swapping out the data files from the windows version to the linux version, but its the game executable itself that's the culprit, not the data files.

So far, all DLCs worked fine, until Second Chances came, and its only that DLC that isn't working completely.

Tl;dr: Try to run the windows version in WINE and hope that it magically fixes itself with future releases.
Looks like they compiled this quickly without even testing if it works, and probably didn't bother checking themselves after you contacted them.

There are a few games with this problem, such as Apotheon : the person responsible for the port didn't do much really since he was relying on some Wine APIs anyway, but failed nevertheless. The problem was present on Steam too... he corrected the Steam binary, but never bothered about GOG.

Thinking of it, could it be that you don't have all DLCs and there's some hidden dependency on Linux on a DLC you don't have, that makes it fail ? Well, maybe that's too far fetched, anyway that would not be a good reason to buy them of course since it would mean rewarding them for their incompetence, but just thinking...

Well, as the logs I posted above seems to imply the game executable itself is simply not recognizing any of the new definitions it seems as if the old executable was packed with the new data files.

Support claimed it worked fine on their system, but I have no idea to what extend they tested it.
The response was that "it worked fine" on their end, and then said that its probably my end since I don't use Ubuntu.
I run Debian 10 and everything running on Ubuntu has been running out-of-the-box here as well.
Then again I don't even know if they tested it on linux... Or if they even went past "well, game launches, nothing wrong" and didn't bother checking the very specific issue I was mentioning.

Personally I'm not too worried since Prison Architect (windows version) runs fine in WINE, and you get the game on all platforms anyway, its not like I had to buy it twice.
Not saying its pretty, but well, can't be too worried about it being pretty when its about getting most games to run on linux. As long as it works with decent performance, its okay enough for me.

I'd like to emphasize that I have no idea what was tested, and didn't take it up with Paradox Interactive either.
I have no idea how support tested it, and what they actually tested, so I can't say its incompetence, nor can I say the problem is clearly on my end.
As being a minority inside a minority (running games from GOG under linux), it might simply be that so few people have this issue they aren't bothering to check the forums and either ask, or post that it works fine on their end.
Might be more people had this issue, and just went with the windows version under WINE and forgot about it.
UPDATE

Today I installed the linux release of "The Pen 7718" update, and what do you know, the second chances DLC now actually works!

So it seems my previous statement about hoping that it'll be fixed in a future version is actually an effective strategy.
Or, perhaps support took notice of this thread and fixed the issue, I don't know.
Happy enough that the linux release appears to work in full now. :)

I was just about to respond to this thread, that the issue should be fixed. A note for the future, the best way how to deal with this type of problem is to contact Paradox directly (https://support.paradoxplaza.com/hc/en-us), which I did on Monday and they responded quite quickly and I was informed that the dev team was aware of that issue (probably due this thread or GOG support staff?) and are about to solve that. And here we have it :)

Thank you for this addition. I will certainly try to reach the developers concerning bugs like these.
I had a smiliar issue with Terraria, which was also solved by the developers.

Anyway, happy that it has now been fixed. :)
