Jon St. John is a terrible replacement. Corey Cruise did a decent enough job doing a Rick Hunter impression. Not the same thing by any means, but passable enough and certainly not the worst thing about Postal 3. Jon St. John can't even get that right. His delivery alternates from a poor Rick Hunter impersonation to a high-pitched low-IQ hick to straight-up doing the Duke Nukem voice. Sometimes all three in a single line. It's distracting and, face it, it's not proper Postal without Rick Hunter.

How hard can it be to get Rick Hunter? I mean, the guy is on record that he did his voice recordings for Postal 2 (or was it Postal 1) in about 2 hours. If he's busy doing radio work, he could just record his lines in that same studio and send them to RWS. What could it possibly take to get him on board? Should we do a Kickstarter for a Rick Hunter voice pack? Should we do a petition?

Bring back the REAL Postal Dude!

Dont ask stupid things like this. If they could they would have brought him back. He does a radio show or something now full time.

And dont even start a stupid petition. Unless, *would you like to sign my petition?*

Where there's a will there is a way. Start pestering the guy nonstop. He's not going to be doing his show 24/7, I'm sure there will be some way he can squeeze in 2 hours to record a handful of lines. Hell, he can record his lines during toilet breaks and he'll still do a better job than Jon St. John. A Postal game without Rick Hunter is already on the completely wrong track.

That was the idea.

I just started the game. The voice is definately not the most fitting but we live with it until RWS gives us a voice pack from someone who fits more. Jon is too gravely and makes the Postal Dude seem like hes a 80 year old bum. It doesnt have to be Rick Hunter btw, anyone with a fitting voice would do.

I trust in RWS on this. There are more pressing issues as i already noticed the shovel doesnt cut of limbs, which it did in Postal 2.

Keep playing and you'll quickly notice that he doesn't stay gravelly, he eventually does this really silly high-pitched nasal redneck voice. Totally inappropriate for the Postal Dude. Equally annoying is when Jon breaks character because RWS have him say some line that is a Duke reference - "I'm all out of gum!" ... laaaaaaaaaaaaame! They could've gotten the voice of the guy who did Super Mario and have him go "It's-a mee, Pooostal Duuude!" and it couldn't be any more lame than what Jon St. John does. They should go all the way and get Hunter. No compromises, no half-measures. There have been plenty of those for Postal 3 and that game fucking sucked. Postal 4 is still a long way off from release and instead of sinking more money into Jon St. John, they should just have Desi or MikeJ do temp audio for the Dude while they keep trying to get Hunter back. There's still plenty of time and some opportunity might arise eventually.

BTW, the shovel never cut limbs, you could only sever heads with the shovel.

Trust me, we tried.

He just wasn't available, we can't force Rick to work for us

I don't doubt you tried, but I also think you should stay persistent instead of giving up and hiring the next best wash-up based on name recognition among FPS fans alone.

Don't take no for an answer, hound the guy, chase him around the globe, track him down with a fuckin' dictaphone if need be. Make him regert the day he snubbed you. Don't give up until he either records that angelic voice of his for your game, or he gets a restraining order. After he got that restraining order send the next guy after him.

Seriously though, the game still is ways off (I'd wager a year or two at least) from its final release, so I'd honestly just recommend to have some RWS staffer record temp audio until the final release and see if something can be done in the meantime instead of wasting money on some third-rate replacement.

edit: Also, something that I was curious about: Some guy on youtube rummaged around the game files and found newly recorded audio by Rick Hunter that was clearly recorded for scenes in Postal 4. Do you know what the deal with those was? Holdover lines from discarded Paradise Lost missions maybe?

I haven't played the game yet, but if the change in the voice lines is notable, I think you could explain it in-game. Have the first thing Postal Dude does be to smoke something, implying that he's been chain-smoking something really heavily. He can cough and then say that these sandpaper cigarettes (or whatever he's smoking) are shredding his throat.

It seems like that would be the fastest way to explain the voice change. I'm assuming that his actual characterization and delivery would be similar to the earlier games.

Since it looks like you're using Unreal Engine, will the game be able to support mods once it comes out? That way, people might even be able to take voice samples from the earlier game and try to port them over, or even make new voice samples.

I'm glad to see that there's a new Postal game on the horizon. I think it's needed nowadays. Almost a public service, really. This is also the first time I've come to GoG in months, so this was a very fun surprise.

Hard to say how much of the voice acting is done so maybe they can change it in the future. Its being made a much bigger deal than it is considering theyre aware that many people dont like the new voice. Im sure they figure something out.

the rickening goG edition.

Mike J stated severall times on the streams and RWS stated this on Steam forums:
Rick is not coming back, John is what we've got.

It is not the same person so the voice sounds different, near as i can tell tehre are new lines being recorded on ocasion so it will hopefully be more destinct eventualy. RWS has to work within what is avalible not with what we all prefer.

The guy hasn't croaked yet, has he? If he had, I'd share the defeatist attitude. As long as he's alive, RWS should try to convince him to get back on board (preferably with cash from the Early Access piggy bank).

Face it, bro: The guy IS the Postal Dude.
