Gods damn it. I loved this game, and when I downloaded this GOG version a couple years ago it ran flawlessly. But now it won't start in 3D mode no matter what I do. I've tried messing around with compability and starting it as an admin both with the box and the right click method. No dice.

I managed to get the software version to work, but it's so choppy and straight-out laggy that it's unplayable.

This actually resolved it:

Go to the pcgamingwiki page for it, and look for Game Crashes on startup AMD ATI GPU.

I followed those instructions, and it works. I can now run the GOGLauncher and set different resolutions. You may play a little with dgVoodoo settings to your liking.

Just finished play a few levels after trying this and it worked. Game runs wonderfully and no graphical issues so far. Thanks for linking it in, software mode was just unplayable.

One thing to note is the dgvoodoo watermark in the bottom right, not a problem for me, but I can see why GOG haven't just chucked it in with the current build.

I just downloaded populous the beginning and i cant seem to get it to run properly. Im using windows 10 and every time i try to run the application it says that can not be started... any suggestions?

Hi Guys, I am having the same problem, on Windows 10, 64bit, game won't launch, even running as admin. Also looking into the game directory, and installing, and reinstalling multiple times, the expansion doesn't seem to be there. There only popTB.exe, someone from GOG, should chime in at this point.

You have to start in from the games folder.

I downloaded Populous:The Beginning just a few days ago and I see there was an expansion to be included? Well, in order for the game to play I've had to open it as "software" but I don't see the expansion anywhere. Where can I find it, download it or?
