I've installed the game both from the standalone download and from GOG Galaxy on my Macbook Air with Catalina.

In both cases, the game will install but will not launch.

In the former case, the game will "install" but I cannot find it anywhere on my computer thereafter.

In the latter case, the game will seem to install, sync, a blue button will appear in GOG galaxy that says "play," I click it, and nothing then happens.

What might be going on here?

What might be going on is that you "upgraded" to Catalina and lost all capability of running 32 bit code. But that's just a guess. Maybe Wine has a workaround for that.
