Morte's dialogue clip plays constantly without any discernible reason. While just walking around, Morte will say "I haven't had this much fun since, uh, the last time." every five seconds. That's not an exaggeration. At most, the game will last about thirty seconds before it plays the clip, and oftentimes, it'll play it three or four times in a row, actually cutting in on itself. It's maddening.

I've been playing the game for a while now, but this problem has only shown up in the last three hours of gameplay or so. *MINOR SPOILER* It started a couple hours before I first faced off against Ravel in her vine garden.

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the game, but even that didn't work, so that means the problem is in my latest couple of save files. In my earlier save files, I'm pretty sure the game works as normal, with no constant Morte clips. But, I'd really like to know if anyone can give me a quick fix so I don't have to retread the last four to five hours of game play all because of stupid Morte.

Ideally, I'd rather not turn off character voices, as for the most part, I like them, and they're useful in combat.

Thanks for any help.

You're playing unmodded, right?

This isn't a glitch, technically, it's a... feature inherited from the BG games that was never quite implemented in PST. You've raised the party reputation to the point where Morte became happy with your actions (the reason it's only Morte is because he is the only Good-aligned companion). Most mods remove the dialogue reputation triggers so this doesn't happen.

Now, there are really only two NPCs with those triggers in the entire game - Angyar and Reekwind; helping them raises reputation just enough that it makes Morte happy. From my experience, this only happens if Morte is in the party when you talk to them to complete their quests, so dropping him temporarely at this point prevents the effect.

If I remember correctly, it is possible to edit a savegame to set Morte's Happiness value back to 0, which makes him stop talking. You'll need a program like Near Infinity for that (http://sourceforge.net/projects/nearinfinity/).

With NI, you do something like this:

1. Point NI to your PST folder (Game -> Open Game).

2. Browse the "Save" folder in NI, and in the subfolder corresponding to your last save select the TORMENT.GAM file.

3. In the "Player characters" window find Morte (TNO is always slot 1-0, so look at your party order). Double-click the character entry to open the party member window.

4. In that window go to the "Edit" tab and look for the "Happiness" line. Double-click its value on the right and edit it to 0.

5. Close everything and agree to save the changes when prompted.

Editing the saves is really the only way to get rid of this issue once it has started, because they store copies of character templates (so fixing the dialogue triggers won't help).
