I'm in the opening mortuary scene. Have met Mort, killed zombies and retrieved the key. So far, so good except that I can't figure out what specific keyboard controls I need to use the key. (Embarrassing, right?) I've read the manual, checked the keyboard preferences, etc.

I can bring up the interface and choose the key w/left-click but when I close the interface, I am no longer holding the key. If I click the gate, it tells me I need a key.

This has got to be some no brainer that I'm just overlooking and chances are good that I'll feel like an idiot but if anyone has some idea of what I'm doing wrong, I would be forever grateful. Thanks!

I am also having this problem. It seems a bit silly to me that I can't intuitively work out how to do the simple mechanic of using an item.

Keys are automatic; it will be the wrong door. Don’t worry It caught me out at first to.
As for other items, some you can use in the inventory by right click then hitting use. Otherwise it will tell you how to use it in its description.

Yeah key use is automatic, useable items can be used in the inventory screeen or through the right click control panel if they're in your quick slots

I believe once you have unlocked all of the doors for a given key it will disappear, as well.
