I've had this pc for a couple of months now, (built it), and it runs games like Dark Souls III, Dishonored 2, Dying Light fine for hours on end but when I played this game for around 10-20 minutes, my screen turned black and the fans started screaming like a jet engine. Does this game have performance issues and if so should I return it? Shame, I was getting into it too...

It's not a GPU intensive game -- I played it on a GTX580 and it never broke a sweat -- so I would suspect an issue with cooling (fan, heatsink, dust etc.) PSU could also be an issue.

The CPU is more likely to get hot than GPU in this game, so check that it's utilising all cores.
The game is surprisingly demanding and taxing on the GPU.

Though you haven't mentioned things like resolution and display/graphics settings which obviously can have an effect on GPU usage.

Off the bat I'd suggest making sure you're enabling Vsync, or otherwise limiting the framerate. Don't let it go higher than your monitors refresh rate and considering the game type you could even go lower still to lighten the load on the GPU, for example if you have a 100hz+ or 200hz+ monitor you could limit the game to 60FPS for this type of game and still enjoy it as such responsiveness isn't as important in it. Lowering other graphical settings could also lighten the load without much visual impact.

A 1060 6GB shouldn't have any troubles with this game at 1080p with the "Graphics Quality" slider maxed ingame.

You could also try using something like GPUz, RealTemp or Afterburner to monitor GPU temperatures to make sure it is or isn't overheating.
