It seems like there are no helmets(so far) that make your character better. Are there alot of helmets that will not just be a aesthetic thing?
I was wondering the same, my guess is though that we will get some helmets later in the game that actually provide bonuses.
The armor seems to be the main thing though and stuff like helmets and gloves only add some small bonus, like in dragon age inquisiton

Atleast how I feel initially, I don't like how early helmets give no boosts at all and you can't enchant them. I think there is a legit reason for this but having a purely cosmetic equipment item is not really fun to me unless it's like pets. Maybe once I know why they didn't put this in the game i'll feel better about it.

It's not even close to being a deal breaker anyways, the game is still FANTASTIC so far.
Some of the D&D crpg have cosmetic-only helmets. It seems to be a trend. I doubt it is a conspiracy, or a sign of laziness.

I found a helmet that gives two different +1 bonuses, it was tucked away in a hiding spot in the first towns underground temple.

Not sure if loot tables are random or fixed, so it may not be there for everyone. I don't want to give any spoilers, but if you hunt around in each room like I did you can't miss it using the tab key for highlighting hot spots.

When I checked online I found out these helms are pretty few in numbers(but maybe it was out of date info). Pretty much the majority of them don't give a bonus from what I've seen, but I did see the helm you are talking about on the list. I just don't see why they made most helms useless :(. Here's to hoping that this is all just a glitch and you can atleast enchant helms :D.
There are many helmets with stats, but they are still relatively rare, comparatively speaking.

The current Godlike stats do not really make up for losing a helmet (since some helmets have +Attributes as well as other things).

But as said above, the majority of helmets have no real effect. Strangely. You'd think that they'd at least have something.

In some of those games the helmets had no armor, but they did reduce critical hits for head damage, a feature that was difficult to uncover in-game or in the manual.

Unless the helmet is enchanted then no. Only enchanted items give a bonus to stats and what not :)

However there is an enchanted helmet just for the taking in Gilded Vale. The catch? You have to explore the Temple of Eothas and do the side quest that lies within to get it.
I guess there are a few helmets later in the game that boost your stats. In the meantime, I'm enjoying dressing my rapier-wielding rogue in a duellist's hat.
Is there a chance that helmets work similar to old Baldur's Gate games, where they implicitly protect you against crits?

it is my favorite hat too, i was kinda sad when i found an ugly helmet that gave a bonus and felt i had to upgrade for the bigger numbers
I have found one helmet so far that actually provides bonuses, but no Damage Resistance.

I'm pretty sure that no helmets give DR :(. However that is not too big of a deal. Bonuses only may be better anyways.

I wish there was a way to get a helmet that looks the way you want and also have a bonus you need. They should be enchantable(or maybe be able to make it from scratch and it includes a enchantment) BUT cost a nice bit of resources(pretty much to where you might as well upgrade armor\weapon first unless you can rely on a ok statboost) .
It feels extremly silly that you get tons of rings of protection and what not, that give you significant bonuses, but then the helmets don't do nothin' at all, kind of immersion breaking and pointless.
I have 1 helmet that does something (the one from the temple) and 3 rings of protection already, and 1-2 other rings that boost stats.
