Hello,

Most of us remember or at least have heard about the 2010 port of the 2005 xbox title "Stranger's Wrath". And this was not nice. But since the release, the game was patched.

So before considering playing the game, I wish to hear from you, who have been playing the GoG version.

Is it good/okay/bad?
What about the graphics issues?
Controllers?
Other bugs?
Overall feedback...

Thanks
Gilou

PS: does the GoG version include the latest patch?
Hi!
I was quite worried about the issues too, but I bought it anyway ^^

I've just played for 20min so far, but:
- no real graphic issues. Just a kind of "GTA IV-like" transparency effect on tiny textures (a bit like shadows on GTA 4 or the Witcher 2). Nothing important, maybe it's just the way XBox handled transparency. It looks good!
- best played with a pad, and it is very well configured from the start. I have a PS2 kind of controller, and it works like a charm.
- apart from that, framerate can be a bit inconsistant when looking at some very precise point (by inconsistant, I mean it changes, but never becomes unplayable. I've turned VSync on though!)

And yes, it's patched to 1.2. So, nothing bad with this version! The game has a reputation to begin quite slowly, but then it becomes very enjoyable. Oddworld's universe can still be felt from the beginning, even though of course the setting is quite different. It's really the same artistic touch.

I'd say, buy it ^^

Thanks for the reply

If anyone wishes to add anything, feel free to do so
Woops I got further into the game and noticed that water still looks err, strange. An issue with shaders. It seems that this episode ends up being like most console ports, clearer textures but strange bugs. I'll look into it and post another thread if I find a solution. May be a specific bug on ATi cards though (mine is 4850 for laptop).

Edit: Ok I've looked into it and the bugs I've described are only appearing with ATi's latest drivers. It seems to be an issue with the way they handle OpenGL buffers. Currently the devs can't do anything, it's in ATi's hands to correct that. However, the upcoming HD texture pack should correct that too. If you have a nVidia, you shouldn't have any issue. (note: this buffer bug also plagues older games like The Nomad Soul. It's time they clear that up!)

So the HD pack is something free that can be installed on GoG's version of the game?
That's a good question. Apparently the devs who ported the game from XBox to PC are working on it, without giving much details (it was a leak at first): for the first 2 Oddworld, PS3 and according to one post of theirs, PC. As to the "price", it is completely unknown. Apart from that, there's even less info about the GoG version, although I think it should work (they obviously know the game is here, and its a texture pack after all). Don't wait for it though, it may take a long time, if it comes.

The best thing is really to wait for ATi to correct what seems to be their mistake, no the devs'. They are aware of the issue. Not that it's unplayable with an ATi, but I just tested the game on my brother's PC with an nVidia (560GT). It works bug-free, no problem with water, sun, signals, cables or grass.

Thanks for the information
Does anybody know if this Stranger's Wrath supports the XBox 360 controller? I played this game back on the original XBox and thought it was pretty awesome--I'd love to give it another spin, but only if it works with my 360 controller!!!
Does anybody now if this games will work on a Geforce 9300ge ? Thanks.

Yup, works like a charm on my one. Munch's Oddysee too, if they ever get around to releasing it on GoG (I have the Steam versions)

It only released on Steam thus far. I think on the 13th or 14th of this month. I don't think it is coming to GOG despite them saying it would.

Anyway, I found controls awkward for keyboard and mouse back when I played it early this year (I think that was with the 1.2 patch). Not sure if it works better with a gamepad or not.

Oh and there was something in the tutorial, I think it was a graphics bug that hid where I was suppose to shoot to continue. Had to look up a video to figure out why I could progress.

At the moment, i'm quite skeptic about it. They promised the HD version for PC supposedly to be release couple of months (1 or 2 months if i'm not mistaken) from the PS3 release date. But eventually it took them nearly 9 months, still have some issues that have yet to be ironed out.
I just bought OSWrath & cannot get it to work either on my new ASUS G73J or my old HP windows XP desktop. This is despite updating to new ATI drivers, updated windows 7, & getting all Direct X. It freezes on the loading screen and nothing seems to help. Apparently many are having the same problem with this program.
