Just wondering if anyone knows if the new Melody of the Egg mission will become available for GOG offline players .. While playing the Offline Manual Installation of the game (ie no GOG Galaxy) ?

I know that the weekend missions will not be do-able without having the GOG Galaxy client installed, so I guess we will need an update to the game to be able to see the Void egg available to purchase in the Nexus at some point in the future.

But here's hoping after we get it as standard content, will we be able to do that mission without being connected to the HelloGames servers. The mission sounds like its a good one, and it would be a shame if its hamstrung by not being always connected online.

I wish also Hellogames will add random NPCs to the Nexus (similar to Space stations). I know it was designed as a hub for players to get together in multiplayer .. But as an original supporter buying this game full price on GOG on day one, I feel we are being a bit forgotten about in design decisions recently.

One day, Hellogames servers will no longer be maintained, so besides us GOG players needing offline solutions to content availability, I would imagine everyone will eventually. I still hope to be able to play every aspect of this game for many years to come.

...
I had the same issue with the egg and not being connected to the HG-servers.

I play entirely offline, simply because I have to.
Where I live at the moment, the internet connection is extremely slow and unstable, so no chance of playing online.

Even if you have enough Quicksilver (which is possible even offline), there will be no egg to purchase.

Here is what I did:

I used the savegame-editor to give me a void egg, which I could have purchased if I were connected to the servers.
It seems that is sufficient to trigger the "Melody of the Egg"-mission.
After a few warps and some travelling with the pulse engine, I encountered a living ship which startet the mission.

I'll keep you posted if you like, if Ican finish the missions and finally get a living ship with that workaround.
What version of the game do you have installed manually, is it the 2.31 Living Ships update ? - I guess it must be because otherwise you would not encounter living ships in space .. Answered my own question :)

And what item is available at the top of your list in the QuickSilver shop ?, do you have the recently introduced Back pack coloured trails, which came before the Living ships update ?.

I am guessing that eventually Hellogames do filter through all the items for purchase which have accumulated from Weekend / Community research, for inclusion into the Offline Manual Installation setup, otherwise the list of items would be very short and not include anything more than what we had when the Nexus was first included in the game.

It would be a bad oversight if the Void Egg does not get included in the Offline Installation .. So fingers crossed it gets included in the next couple of updates - there is an experimental branch going on right now addressing issues with the Living Ships update which I am taking part in, but I cant uninstall GOG Galaxy and re-install the offline game just yet while testing this out https://steamcommunity.com/app/275850/discussions/0/1754652960101829332/

Anyway based on your post as a user of just the Offline setup, I'm going to send in a bug report to the Zendesk https://hellogames.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new that offline players are not seeing the Void Egg in the shop. Thank you for the info' :)

If you get an update to the games Offline Installers, and the Void Egg starts to appear in the Quicksilver shop, let me know then I can close the issue as resolved.

On top are 2 decals for decorating the base, an Artemis - and a Null - decal.
The coloured trails are not in the shop.

I cross my fingers too.
It would be really odd if those things would not be added to the shop in the offline-version, it would not make any sense at all.
Just a guess, but it may simply be an accident.

I definitely will post it here if a future update changes the status quo.
So far the Starbirth mission runs just fine.
The new ships arn't available for offline? I just started a new character just for the ships update to get there and use them.

Apparently not until HG include the Void Egg in the Quicksilver shop for GOG Offine players .. The Void Egg is what triggers the mission starting when you carry it in your Starship or Exosuit inventory.

Its quite a bad ommission. By the sound of norsk most recent post, the items for sale in the shop are waay behind what anyone even just partially online has available (not playing multiplayer but using GOG Galaxy), I have to scroll down about seven pages of items to get down to where Artemis decal and Null decals are.
I have reported an issue to Hello Games about the void egg and the Quicksilver shop.

I mean most things in the shop are just ''cosmetic'' items, which I could easily live without.
Coloured jetpack trails are fancy, no doubt ;-) But I don't miss them.

But not being able to purchase the void egg is quite disappointing, especially since you are able to grind yourself enough Quicksilver as an offline player.

But I guess that will be fixed soon.

Until then I don't have a bad conscience using the save editor to give me the egg ;-)
v2.32 Offline Backup Installation files are now available
I'll try them tomorrow and give you some feedback if things have changed
looked at the changelog with the patch. Doesn't look like anything was added for single player. Just bug fixes

You're probably aware but it's possible to play through GoG Galaxy and be connected to the HG servers for things like discoveries, visiting other player's bases, and the current setup in the Anomaly without enabling multi-player. It's very much like how it was back before multi-player was enabled on the various platforms.

I'm a cranky old hermit and single player + connected is my preferred mode. Besides, I hate standing in line at the Nexus. ;-)

Not everyone likes being connected. -_- Some of us don't have FB, Discord, or any of the others.

Yep completely aware, I do use Galaxy for testing the experimentals (without it we cant access those branches of development) with all the Network options disabled.

But my preferred installation is without Galaxy for a few reasons :

1. The Galaxy client is a potential additional vector for lord knows what to get into my system. Do GOG employ security experts?, I doubt it, I reckon they just shore up the holes when someone points at them same as Steam client programmers .. See also NSA - We dont need zero days to get inside your network. I doubt I will ever be a target for the NSA, but if they can do it so can anyone else.

Even a laptop running Valve's Steam gaming service can make a nice point of entry for Joyce's NSA buddies, he says.

"Why go after the professionally administered enterprise network when people are bringing their home laptops, where their kids were going out and downloading Steam games the night before?"
2. If I am at Sea, I cant always get internet.

I bought this game on GOG specifically because of the above two reasons, and I thought Hellogames would support the Offline Installation files for as long as they could until it was no longer economically viable (same for all games), and leaving us in as good a place as possible by that time .. But now we find the focus of support has shifted to multi-player and the bigger crowds wants = Good old GOG Offline NMS which we bought on day one and supported the company paying full price Pre-order for what we believed would develop into an excellent game (it has) .. is being left behind a bit in the attention to detail. This missing Void Egg from the Quicksilver store is a prime example, so are missions which an offline player can accept which need online connectivity and leave the offline player unable to complete the mission, and so are quite a few bugs which Hellogames has not responded to with fixes for a few years, instead prioritising problems from the bigger crowds (Steam / XBone / PS4) and fixes to problems generated by newer updates (which also dont always fix every new problem so the back log of to-do issues gets bigger). I have email responses from Zendesk for issues still present today dating back to the start of 2017. They have addressed a lot of fixes for us in those years and I would say they have cleared about 25 of my reports, but I still have eighteen sitting there, mostly minor issues admittedly.

I could use Galaxy all the time .. But theres a reason number 3 ..

3. One day Hellogames might not be able to support its servers indefinitely. Maybe GOG will go belly up one day, who knows. Then everyone will start to realise the flaws of the offline installation which never got fixed because it will be the only version of the game which can still be played.

I am determined to help Hellogames solve as many Offline game issues as possible before that day comes around. And I for one really did buy this game for life, I have no doubt I will still be playing this before I am pushing up the daisies :)

You can play the game offline with the same save even if you have previously played the game and even downloaded through the Galaxy client.

For the first nine months I played offline only and never installed Galaxy. I eventually caved as I was passing up a lot of space bucks for uploading credits. Although only a single installation you have the option to play offline or online by simply choosing whether to start the game directly from the executable (offline) or by using Galaxy (online). After first installing Galaxy and synching the library I was still in the habit of just clicking the No Man's Sky icon so would often be switching between offline and online with the same save albeit updated for any progress. I also found that when I switched back to the online version any uploads attempted while playing offline also were uploaded.

It is an individual choice but everyone has the option to do this. I would suggest that if anyone elects to try this intermittent online gameplay that before the first launch of NMS in Galaxy to first edit the Galaxy settings to disable automatically updating the game and disable cloud saves.

There was a warning from GOG about updating the game back in 2016. The installers are slightly different so they cautioned that using the offline patches to update the game might cause problems if you have Galaxy installed so for updates they suggested to either use Galaxy or to use a fresh install of the newest version of the full offline installer. I have done the later a few times and Galaxy didn't care. Just make a backup copy of your saves and remember that if you use experimental then those saves may not be compatible with a rollback of the game to a previous version.
@Chewywearenothome ..

Well, yes, for those of us that chop and change between fully Offline and beta testing the Experimentals (hence needing GOG Galaxy occasionally again) the best approach is ..

Uninstall game installed by GOG Galaxy.
Uninstall GOG Galaxy.
Install Offline Backup installer of the game
Revert to saves created before installing Galaxy, then continue play

This topic is about possible bugs with the offline installation of the game, most recently the Void Egg not being available in the Quicksiver store breaking the Starbirth mission because we (as offline players generally) will not have the item needed to start the content needed for most of the reason behind the living ships update ..

.. I guess your post is for the benefit of newbies ?
