I'm running NWN 1.69 on Windows 7 and it crashes often when I use quicksave. So far it hasn't happened to manual saves, but it's very annoying, as it eats the save and any progression I've made. Is this a common problem that there's a fix for? Any help is appreciated.
I haven't heard of this problem before.

If you have the game installed to a protected folder (/Windows/, /Program Files/), then you should definitely move it.

Otherwise, I have no help.
Nah, it's in my games folder. I reinstalled to see if that'd help, but it's still happening.
You could try to delete the last quicksave from its folder, maybe the old file is corrupted and causes problems. Savegames are not necessarily deleted if you de-install the game.

I can't take a look at the save location now, but its is one of these:
C: -> User -> {Username}-> AppData -> Local -> VirtualStore -> Program Files (x86) -> BioWare Corp
Game install Directory

You may have to make invisible files visible to navigate into the first path:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Show-hidden-files

Also: How much memory do you have installed? NWN has some memory leaks which can cause crashes after a long period of gameplay.

Me research shows that all people who had problems with quicksave, where successful using normal saves to circumvent the problem. May be an option.
I have 4 gb of ram. It's since crashed on an autosave, so it's not just quicksaves. It crashes randomly, as well, for no apparent reason. I have the Diamond disc version, but decided to get the GOG digital, as well. I don't remember the disc version being this bad.
4GB should be enough. I cannot find usefull information anymore. Only thing that comes toi my mind is, that you could try basic debugging by yourself.

First download http://technet.microsoft.com/en-en/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx
Run NWN, Run the programm and set filters so that only NWN is shown. Play till you experience a crash and look a the last few files and registry keys the game tried to access. Maybe one of them doesn't exist or contains bad data.
I know this is thread necromancy...but...ran into the quick save problem myself.

Via a hint provided from ProcMon (and Google), I added exclusions for the ~NWN\saves directory to my anti-virus (Avast), and to the Windows 7 Indexer service, so neither would "watch" the saves directory any longer.

I've been trying every 5 minutes for the last hour to get the game to crash via quicksave, and haven't had it crash yet. Used to be I could get it to crash in about 5 minutes if I quicksaved frequently.

Hope this helps someone in the future...
