When I first installed an launched the game, it ran perfectly, but upon opening the second time (and every successive attempt) the game has frozen before it loads any of the on-start logos, just opens the game, screen is black and I get the cursor with an hourglass, I've tried reinstalling, checked my drivers, and directx, tried running in compatibility mode for both xp and vista, but none of that has worked so far. The game also will not close, nor minimize after this happens, I cannot even end the process of nwn2main.exe( which is at that point completely hogging one of my cores) nor does it actually give an error, it just stays there doing nothing but using resources, and showing (Not Responding)

I'm unsure of what to try next, and am hoping someone has come across this issue before, or may know what to do to help.

Something to try, is rename nwn2main.exe to something else (ie nw2main.exe)

When you say you are unable to end the nwn2main.exe process, do you mean you have to reboot your computer to regain control? Does your computer freeze up hard (no ctrl+alt+delete, caps lock light doesn't toggle, etc...)?

If it is upon loading an existing game, try to backup your saves and start a new one to see if you still get the issue. It might be a file corruption.

The fact that you can't minimize the windows do tell that the game just crashed, you'll have to try to kill it in "blind mode":
* Open your process manager before starting the game, check if you have any processes starting with 'n'.
* Once the game freeze, open or switch to the process manager and press 'n' to get to the nwnmain.exe. The number of time you need to press 'n' depends on the number of processes starting by that letter. Once you believe you are on it, press the delete button of you keyboard.

You might want to try those step with a dummy process before starting the game, like a notepad.exe :)
perhaps I didn't explain the issue I had clearly enough, (I ended up reinstalling windows for other reasons, now running 64 bit with no issues, though I am still curious about why this happened)

to uscere, I mean that I am unable to end the process, the computer does not freeze, in fact, aside from the large black square where the game window was(I found that when loading the nwn loader(changing the display mode essentially, through a program that I could easily cancel to change it back quickly) and then attempting to run nwn2, it would let me minimize the window once), but the machine was running fine aside from that(and the lack of use in one core due to nwn2 hogging it. I could do pretty much anything else (except open other full screen applications, it would not allow me to do that) it was just the program that was frozen.

to xrogaan, it was upon opening the game itself, it never got to the opening screen, much less even started the intro animations of the developer logos. and when I say that I couldn't end the process, I mean attempting to end the process in task manager did *nothing*, ending the task brought up a "this program is not responding" etc window the first time, shrunk the window down to its size relative to that of my desktop resolution, and then sat there as it had before(further attempts to end the task did equally... nothing, not even bringing up the "please wait while it closes/finds the problem w/e etc window) I had no problems seeing the task manager itself, as that is always brought to the front, even over fullscreen programs. the machine was running fine, it was just that program that was frozen.
