PLEASE HELP!

A friend and I recently bought NWN2 of GOG, and just want to play the campaign together, but for whatever reason, can't figure out how to make it happen.

We have been reading discussions and downloading LAN software like there's no tomorrow, and haven't found a solution.

Do we simply need to join one of the servers on the nwnlist together, and just start playing?

I sound like a brutal noob, I know. I am not new to D&D and Forgotten Realms, but I'm not overly familiar with online gaming.

If anyone can help, it'd be would OH so appreciated!

Thanks!
If you're just wanting to play together, you don't need to join an online server. One of you will need to start a multiplayer game, and then the other join it, see p24 of the manual.

If your other player can't see the game you're hosting, you'll need to look at things like firewalls that might be getting in the way...
Actually your friend won't see the game even if it's properly posted. Gamespy has pretty much flipped off the entire legacy/retro gaming community with a big fat "F*** YOU!" by dropping support to any game who's publishers were unwilling or unable to pay them a huge support fee. This included NWN and I'm pretty sure NWN2.

The only way to connect now is to use the Direct Connect feature. And yes... you need to have certain ports open. These can be blocked by your router, your modem, or even your ISP.

Here are some links that might help.

This link will help you find your direct connect IP address...

This link will help you configure your router...

If you follow all the pointers on PortForeward and still can't connect your ISP is blocking the ports you need to keep customers from using their home accounts to set up commercial servers. You will need to call them and get their help "bridging" the "router" (DSL "modems" are really routers) or opening the right ports.

...Or they could just play it through Tunngle? Wouldn't that be a lot easier and more preferable than fucking around with ports and routers and all that other shit?
