Ok, I've got an odd problem. It's a bit long-winded so please bear with me...

I'd been playing NWN without a single problem for several weeks, but one day I locked my computer out of habit (Windows key + L) while the game was running. When I unlocked it, the mouse wouldn't respond in the game, so I wound up having to kill the program in Task Manager.

This left my video resolution reduced from the usual 1280x1024 to 800x600, and scrambled everything on my desktop. This persisted through a reboot and I had to manually adjust it back to normal, and leave my icons all scrambled.

Ever since then, the computer has been randomly freezing within about 15 minutes of booting up. The freeze leaves both the mouse and keyboard totally unresponsive, and I have to kill power on the computer to reboot it each time.

The first time this happened, my icons became unscrambled when I rebooted from the freeze.

The freezes happen regardless of whether or not there are any programs running (or if I'm even at the computer). I don't see anything unusual in Event Viewer, and the Reliability Monitor insists that the computer hasn't crashed in months.

I know may not be specific to NWN, but since that's where the problem started (as far as I can tell), I figured I'd poke around here to try and turn up some answers. Any help is greatly appreciated.

System Specs (let me know if you need anything else):

Vista 64bit version 6.0, SP 2
AMD Phenom 9950 Quad-Core 2.61Ghz, 4mb RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT

The first thing to try is running chkdsk.exe from the command prompt.
