I appear to be having the same problem as the people in the Black Screen After Titles thread, where the screen goes black after the opening titles. The menu sound still plays, but the screen is 100% black and I can't mouse over anything. The game hangs when I try to close it and I end up needing to force quit it in the task manager.

I am running in XP compatibility mode and as system administrator. I have disabled Aero and other composition effects, and I am running in window mode (AllowWindowedMode=1 in nwn.ini). None of those things has helped.

That thread says that they solved the problem by updating their graphics driver, but I'm running in a virtual machine, and I don't think I can do anything like that. Is anybody else successfully running this in a VM?

Hello I had that trouble on windows 7 pro 64bit , you hear the sound of intro but blank screen & blank screen on menu ,
to get past them you first make sure you got 169 patch installed , in the nwn.ini file make sure you Enable
safe movies =1
that got the intro & all other movies playing , all the exes in the game folder set to xp sp2 or 3 mode &
disable visual themes & desktop compostion & tic box run as admin also ,that should sort all out & show the menu screen, I almost completed all the way of the main single player .I played in full screen on 1920 x 1080p res , o and if the game is choppy when moving disable the reflcet water in the game options.
also Enable Vsync , this also helps with serious capacitor whine if you got a graphics cards like AMD ATI HD7950 or 7970

I installed from the neverwinter 2 chaotic evil boxset that's got the first nwn platinum with both exp packs on dvd
then I install the patch NWNEnglish1.69HotUUpdate ) but if you got yours from gog it be already done for you
to 169 .

Graphics drivers I am use AMD_Catalyst_13.2_Beta6
it don't really matter on driver as the game is old & came out when it was like cat 8.12
