So I've been a fan of Bioware since Mass Effect and Dragon Age to the degree that I went back to play their older titles.

While I was impressed with story-lines and lore of games like the Baldur's Gate series and Planescape. I found I had a terrible and frustrating time trying to use the AD&D system (I actually did alright with Planescape).

I admit this is my own personal problem and it certianly doesn't reflect on the games' quality, but nonetheless I want a new CRPG but I'm nervous about giving Neverwinter a roll.

So for the D&D veterans out there, does Neverwinter have more accessible RPG mechanics? I like to think I have a strong grasp on games like KOTOR and DA: Origins, the former I know uses some form of D&D.

Thanks for your help!

NWN uses a slightly stripped down set of 3rd edition rules, so there might be a few terms you're unfamiliar with. However, I'm willing to bet that anyone who understands the nuts and bolts of KOTOR's game mechanics will do alright with this. The few details you might not get immediately can certainly be found on the NWN wiki.
Great! I'll go ahead and download.
Neverwinter Nights is the easiest DnD game to get into. If you are a newb let the character creation handle all the hard work but I would recommend doing it for yourself. More fun building your character and all that.
Definitely build your own character without anything preselected. That's a big part of the fun! No doubt you'll put a few points into suboptimal stats and pick up largely useless skills and feats. Don't let that deter you, a medium strength high wisdom fighter is just fine and dandy. It's not that hard a game you'd need to make all the right choices.
