I have written newbie-friendly installation instructions for some NWN modules:

How to Download & Install The Aielund Saga

How to Download & Install The Swordflight Series

How to Download & Install The Prophet Series (and Baldecaran's two other Hall of Fame modules: The Cave of Songs & Honor Among Thieves).

How to Download & Install The Bastard of Kosigan

I hope they can help some people out. The biggest barrier to playing many of NWN's modules is downloading and installing them in the first place.

You might also like to try out Snow Hunt, by Rogueknight333. It's an excellent bounty hunter module, made in just one month! If you have just a few hours to burn, you can't beat this. Install guide for this one is at the end of the Swordflight link.

I am late to this post and have just started to play some NWN after about 10 years away. My favourite Module was AlwaysSummer Days. Funny without being too over the top and the Companion you acquire is Awesome.

Thank you very much for pointing those, especially the Swordflight Series i'm playing for a week at chapter 2 now and i'm delighted. The writing level is flawless, the plot is so captivating, and the scope of this module is huge. I'm finding this campaign much better than OC from NWN1/NWN2. I am simply amazed what a one talented person was able to accomplish.

You're welcome. Latest news is that Swordflight might go to seven Chapters. I would say the first three are already the size of two commercial cRPGs, so it's gonna be pretty huge when done.

Don't forget to comment on the Vault and vote, too. It's the best way to show your appreciation for what is already a magnificent achievement in the arena of traditional cRPGs, amateur or pro.

I have written more on Swordflight since my last post here, too:

This actually looks very fun. Now all I need is to create time to play it.
Chapter / year of release / approximate Level range / rough estimates of chapter lengths:

Chapter One / 2008 / 1 - 5 / 12 hours
Chapter Two / 2012 / 5 - 17 / 50 hours
Chapter Three / 2016 / 17 - 25 / 30 hours
Chapter Four..
Chapter Five..
Chapter Six..
Chapter Seven..?
Just want to say thanks for all the recommendations in this thread, didn't realize so many great modules have been created over the years. Now I'm hooked to NWN1 again, despite the outdated graphics and interface which makes my eyes bleed (any way to increase the font size beyond tiny?)

There are a lot of hacks out there to put in slighter bigger fonts, but most are actually pretty bad in many spots because they don't have the proper drop shadow and contrast, or they go too big and break the interface.

The most important thing is to make sure you are using the High Res fonts in the game.

Under Advanced Video options:
http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/File:Videooptions_advanced.png

Make sure you have "Use High Resolution Font" set.

I don't have an issue with this font at 1080p on a 24" screen. But if you are trying to run 1080 on a laptop they will likely still be too small. You might want to run NWN at a lower resolution which will make the whole UI bigger at the sacrifice of some sharpness, but you probably won't notice the loss if your screen is showing things as too small to begin with.
After finishing Swordflight (for now) just started another great module (maybe even greater), it calls Runes of Blood.

The plot is very cool, but the most important thing is that quests can be done in different ways. The world reacts to our choices. NPC's are very well scripted. Multiple endings, depending on our choices. Main plot have Bad and Evil ending. The writings are better than any other module i have played sofar. To be honest it plays a lot like Arcanum (but it is much smaller game of course). Can't recommend this one enough really. Just be aware it is coming from 2005/06 so the graphic are pretty standard.

I can't post any links with my comment (dunno why?), download from nwnvault.

Don't know if it's of any use to someone, but due to the lengthy install process for the Aielund Saga (and Swordflight), I created a complete pack - with all acts and prerequisites all packaged in a zip.

All you need to do is extract it to your NWN folder and bam - all done. I did this for our NWN group, since we are playing through weekly at present and this made things easier on our players. Anyway, if it is of any use to you, here are the links:

Hey there, I found this page and it sparked my interest in wanting to play NWN1 again. I figured a Dance with Rogues was a good place to start, as everyone seems to be speaking so highly of it.

I love it! It's great! I've never really been into the rogue as a main class, but this mod makes it fun to sneak around, pickpocket and be mischievous in general. I've run into a problem, however, and I'm not sure where to turn to, since the only forum I had seen had only been used a few times over the last year or two.

**SPOILERS**

So, I'm just finishing the "Uncover the Dhorn spies" quest, where you find the culprits and take Vico and 2 other members of the family to "deal with them", but as soon as Vico attacks the gladiator, the game crashes. Also, the gate is locked, even though I picked the lock to get myself out of there during the escape. Does anyone know how I could fix this, or where I could better post/search to find the answers?

I can't wait to check out these other mods too!

Don't remember that quest at all but maybe this might help:

I doubt it's better than Swordflight (:P), but I'll give it a whirl. Thanks for the heads-up.
