Umm basically because I am new here and a suggestion of mine is in danger of making a nice topic go way off topic.. I thought I would start this thread. I am just here to help new players 'cause I have been involved with NWN a long time and the GOG release is wonderful. :)

Let's allow the "Pearls" thread to be reccomendations, no? There are some wonderful modules mentioned.. let;s not confuse it all by talking about a contraversial module?

*smiling* ... It is not a module for eveeryone, and that's ok too.
I've started it (wanted to see what it was like)...

My main problem with it is that I possibly didn't read the readme well enough, and started a sorcerer, which now seems very wrong (game seems to be set up for a rogue), not to mention it requires you to be human female, 14 dex and 14 cha minimum. Doesn't allow for a lot of customisation at that stage... though there are several options on how to complete quests.

Without having played it for more than an hour, I'm not sure the outrage is entirely warranted.

Certainly isn't for everyone though, and I won't pass full judgement until I've completed it.

Wll, it is called a dance with ROGUES *cheeky grin*. But my favourite run throughs have often been sorceresses. Take a pixie familiar and possess her.... She is a rogue of lvl=your sorcerer lvl or one higher iirc.

have fun :)
You know it doesn't do the mod any service to respond to my question with "It's not for everyone." That's practically admitting you think one of my interpretations is right.... without even making it clear which one.

Is it only for people who don't question thinks like that or something?

Some people do not like adult themed modules. It takes nothing away from the module to say that people are different. No module is for eveyone, but this one attracts very strong opinions because some people have very strong opinions about the place of adult themes in a game/media. And that's ok too.

Have fun :)

I assume you're responding to my post, so I'm not really sure what you're getting at. I never said anything about having a problem with mature content. I said it sounded like inverted misogyny. Being a sexist isn't "mature" as you can easily see by looking at any kindergarten.

Sorry, I was simply explaining why I said "it is not for everyone."

As for the misandry, I am completely confused why you accuse the module of that. I've never heard that complaint against it. There are many male NPCs in the module and many of them are helpful to the PC and sympathetic characters in their own right.

Can I ask if you have actually played the module or if this impression you have is based on what you have heard about it?

Like I said before, The more I hear about it, the more it sounds like reverse misogyny. I haven't gotten to play it yet but I'm trying to decide whether to or not.

All I can say is there is no misandry in the module. Misogyny is a more usual (and also incorrect) accusation. But I am obviously a fan so don't believe me *smiling*. if you post in the module forum of the nwn community on Bioware's site and ask about the module then I think you'll find I am not misleading you about the high opinion the module holds in many people's minds, and the nature of the controversy.

have fun :)

A great module, loved it.

And yes, in this case "adult" doesn't (only) mean sex scenes. There *is* some pretty disturbing stuff in there, some very unlikeable male characters, but no judgement passed on either sex. Yeah, you do get raped in the beginning and yeah, you can prostitute yourself for some pocket money or other advantages (but you don't need to). In this module, adult means complex, morally ambiguous situations, no easy right or wrong answers for the situations presented.

Really best to start with a rogue, although you can more or less wing it with other classes as well. After a few levels and a decent skillset, it's probably best to multiclass a bit (I think I went with a rogue/ranger, but some spellcasting ability certainly wouldnt hurt. Part 2 has more combat, a fireball would have been handy.

PS. For those who like this, (or those who don't want to play a woman thiet) but would still like a bit of similarly adult action, I highly recommend The Bastard of Cosigan series.

I liked this mod a lot. Around the time I first played this mod years ago, I had a girlfriend living with me and I had to sneak away late at night just to play it. She was one of those girls that liked to peek over your shoulder and watch you play, because even though she liked video games, she utterly sucked at them. So if she saw me playing that game replete with its scenes of rape and prostitution, she would have probably thought I was some kind of perv that gets off on video games or something. Of course, I am a perv but appearances are everything in modern society. Still, even if you take out all the sex stuff, its a high quality mod that stands on it's own.

Into part 2 now, and I've been very much impressed.

If there wasn't so much graphic sexual stuff in there, I'd probably be recommending this to everyone.

There are often different ways to complete quests, as well as a variety of companions and a decent plot. There's also a nice balance of fighting, sneaking and talking, which few games get right.
I wonder if there are more rogue-centric mods. Rogues have always been my favorite class.
