So, myst the TV show...

Interesting, didn't think this would happen! I'm guessing it might have something to do with the abandoned movie concept.

However, I don't have a ton of faith in this, to be honest. Until we get a trailer or plot synopsis. Right now they could be doing anything with it, from something that's super faithful (Which wouldn't necessarily be a good thing) to something like turning it into a "young adult"/teen romance flick (potential is there with Book of Tiana), which wouldn't necessarily be a good thing either. I think the best service to the spirit and point of Myst would be a show about a cast ending up on a mysterious island that had all sorts of mystery about it, but LOST did that pretty well already. So we'll see.

If it sounds like I'm being really negative, I'm not trying to be, but this is one of those franchises that has a style, characters, and ideas very specific to the gaming scene, so they'll need to re-write a lot of it. So my hope is that they don't turn the source material into something it's not, but also that they aren't too afraid to deviate from that material in order to make the best show possible.

The game aspect intrigues me a lot. I wonder if it's going to be an actual adventure game or if its going to be more like the mobile games we see now.
I'm wondering if it might be something similar to the StarGate series. Not sure how I'd feel about that but it could be done right.

I was not aware of a movie concept, what was that supposed to be like?

A group of fans began a production company to try to get a film version of The Book of Tiana made. I think down the line they backed off of that and thought a movie that adapted all the Myst lore into a new story would be made (I remember hearing something about Tiana discovering Myst Island with her father - something obviously very different than the original). I think it all stopped though because of creative differences between different members of the production company or between the company and the studio. My memory isn't what it used to be though, so I might be getting it part of it wrong. There are a couple of articles about it, I think.

I think I'd prefer a TV series to a movie, though. It seems better suited to the episodic, mystery story that the Myst backstory is filled with.

Yeah this story popped up out of nowhere and pretty much blew everyone away. Like "Oh~ Hey, btw, Legendary's making a Myst show and something about transmedia experience in case anyone was wondering."

Which is odd considering the trouble Myst movie/television production has had. Cyan doesn't just give Myst away to anyone so I think the smoothness with which this news was released speaks for a lot of confidence on the developers part. And I have faith in Legendary. Not only do they have much of Hollywood's hottest and most original properties right now but they're great with IPs in terms of adhering to the source material. Myst is an IP you'd have to butcher to get it to work for television but I think if anyone can make it work without turning the source material inside out it's Legendary.

Myst is a tricky narrative to translate into non-gaming media. I'd love to see them try. I don't know how they'll manage it but I think Cyan and Legendary think they've figured out how to do it.
Looks like there is an update to the MystTV show.

It'll be on Hulu

If it happens. Hulu signed a "script-to-series" deal, and a lot of people are misinterpreting that to mean it's definitely happening. What that means is that Hulu has commissioned Legendary to write up scripts for what they have in mind for the show. If Hulu likes the scripts, they can then greenlight it straight to series skipping the pilot stage.

However if Hulu doesn't like the scripts, they can still walk away from it before starting production.
