EDIT: SOLVED AS OF WARBAND v1.163

There's a small glitch in the options menu that was annoying me.

Where the menu should display "Music Volume" the game instead displays:

STR(ING) NOT FOUND ui_music_volume

I had a look through the language files stored in:

Warband \ languages \ en

The correct value is there - it's on first line - the game seems to have a problem reading the very first line of the ui.csv file

Adding a leading blank line (with Notepad) fixes this issue.

This is probably only GOG version issue, because I have TaleWorlds versions (1.160 as Native and 1.158 for mods - either has no blank lines there) and none of them has this problem. You are using Windows, aren't you? How big (in bytes) was your UI.csv before editing?

Like you, I suspected some files had changed or were missing...

Before I posted this I tried the installer from the Taleworlds site - v1.160 - to see if that was affected too.

The string value is present in both files but I had the same issue ?!? =\

I've seen this problem mentioned - it's not completely game breaking but bizarre!

EDIT: Bit more testing - 'Mount and Blade' and 'Fire and Sword' are NOT affected by this problem; that would imply the problem lies with Warband and not some general issue with my computer...

EDIT 2: Out of interest, changing the games language to another i.e. French and the French options menu gets even more screwed up! (see attached)

Going back to English and the Music Volume line is still broken.

Strange indeed. My clean installation of 1.160 (Vista) has no problems. And I haven't even played it, because I use it just as a "clean files backup system" in case that something goes bad in one of the others installs I have (Vista). I'll install TW version on 8.1 and report back.

Though, I don't think that this is affected by version of your Windows. I'd understand, if there'd be differences between Win/Linux/Mac, but...
I've just installed it on 8.1 and it has this problem. I installed a new copy on Vista and it has no problems.
It seems that it is a system version problem, at least partially. But that's too weird to be true. O_o :/

It seems I'm not alone with this problem...

I've notified GoG support - they'll investigate and pursue Taleworlds for a fix!

If a fix is forthcoming it may coincide with the release of viking conquest
