Despite GOG’s prerelease testing process, it’s apparent that MotoRacer 2 has some serious gameplay issues due to the remains of copy protection left over from back in the day. This specific issue is caused by copy protection remaining in the game we've distributed; it's not caused by conflicts with specific hardware or software setups. This affects everyone's game, and that's a problem. This problem is present in the masters of the game from the publisher, and is present in all downloadable retail versions of the game. The problem is simple: in motocross races, players can’t shift into a gear that’s higher than 3rd gear, and in Superbike mode they can’t shift above 4th. This makes many tracks extraordinarily difficult to win.

Some retailers might be happy with saying, “Well, we’ll work on this and when it’s fixed we’ll give you a new download.” Then, after a month, six months, a year (or longer?) players would probably get an executable that functions correctly and the retailer would be happy with having done its job.

GOG is not just “some retailer”.

Yes, we’re working on fixing MotoRacer 2 at this very moment, but we can’t tell you for sure that we’re going to have this fixed in a week, two weeks, or even a month, and telling you to wait for that long isn’t fair.

So here’s what we’re going to do: if you’re unhappy with your copy of MotoRacer 2, we’ll give you a $5.99 game code. Just log in and go to our support form, select MotoRacer 2 from the dropdown of games you have downloaded, and fill out the subject line with something like, “I’d like a credit for my copy of MotoRacer 2”. Our handy-dandy support team will get cracking on it and will send a code to you as soon a we can.

Since we’re not happy with the quality of the title, we’re have taken it off the list of active sales for now while we work on it. If you ask for a credit for your copy of the game, you’ll notice that we don’t take it off your shelf, though, and if you have already purchased it and want to download it, you’ll still be able to. Once we get the game working--whenever that is--we’ll put the game up for active sale again and post an announcement in this forum so that you guys know to redownload the game.

In the meantime, you’ll be able to enjoy a complimentary game on us as an apology.

GOG will never knowingly disappoint you, and we hope that this makes it right for you guys. We wouldn’t be where we are without our dedicated community of gamers, and we hope you’ll hang around for a long time to come.

And that's yet another reason why I love GOG. Indeed, it's not just "some retailer". Well done!
Thats really cool. But for other broken games ? Like Gorky 17 and its awful flickering on modern hardware ? For more than a year ? GOG should do it for every broken games they sold. There are few, as they do a great job, but they still exist.
I wouldn't be terribly disappointed if a copy of the Commandos Ammo Pack ended up on my shelf somehow
Well, done deal. :) Thank you guys! Best luck in getting this childhood game of mine working.

(actually I was already a teenager back then XD )

Are you sure this is affecting all modern hardware? I haven't tried Gorky 17, but I had similar problems to those you're describing with the GOG release of M.A.X. 2, it's basically unplayable on my laptop with Windows Vista and ATi Radeon HD3200 igp, everything is flickering and occasionally go totally black, on my desktop with Windows 7 and ATi Radeon HD4200 igp it runs flawlessly though. Could it be that you're just running an unfortunate combination of hardware and software that causes these problems on some machines or is it affecting a lot of Gorky 17 owners?

I am not the only one with such problems. Its happend on my HD4850, and now on HD5870. But a lot of other people have problems with other hardware it you look at the subforum of this game. Hardware mode is not working at all and software mode is really ugly and sometimes have tearing problems. It's bad, performance wise, as it uses only CPU. Harware mode has problems such as flickering and cutscenes have too, with black scanlines on top. You can see more details in the subforum.

EDIT : And let's not forget people who have crash at startup...

Some thing you may want to know:
- Catalyst AI should be disabled as its tweakings while improve visuals in many games can cause serious issues on others
- Drivers must not be updated, but deinstalled and then install a new version as the normal update may do nothing but also can break compatibility with some games using older specs both for dx games and ogl games
- Always install the app-profile along with the latest driver as it contains known work around to make sure apps with problems work flawlessly

I have already tried these solutions, but no go. Thank you though.
This is why GOG rocks! TheEnigmaticT, that is a truly classy post and great customer service solution. You guys and gals didn't have to go this far with a credit for those who were unhappy with the MotorRacer 2 issue, but you did anyway. :)

Keep up the good work!
And this deal, ladies and gentlemen, is exactly why GOG is the best online shop in the world.

How can we submit a ticket and get a response when your ticket system is not working in my account? This does not make sense. I apologize for creating another thread but this has to be fixed first. A few of my tickets go unanswered with no acknowledgement because the link for the responses from our tickets are missing.

I'm not quite sure I follow. You can't use the submit a ticket form?

There was this tracking system for support emails inside the My Account area of the site. It would keep track of every email you sent support and respective answers.

I'm pretty sure he is confounding the removal of the system with the complete removal of the ability to send emails (since they are not visibly tracked anymore).

That support has acquired a fame of not answering support tickets throughout the forums just helps him think this way even more, I'm sure.
