Stig79: Armsmasterwas a good one too, I remember.
*shrug* Armsmaster is good, but not necessary. It just rolls back into whether you want more offense from the Knight or more defense/healing/status recovery from the Paladin.
I liked my Paladin, though I do remember in 7 how much my Knight shined.

RSimpkinuk57: Red dragon? Implosion or starburst?
avatar
Cameron_Allan: I'm pretty sure it's mathematically impossible to one-shot even a red dragon with an air mage.. With perfect 10 rolls against zero resistance for Implosion, you'd need 87 points in Air Magic, and with all 16 stars hitting the same dragon of Starburst, that's still only ~340 damage before resistances at level 20 Air, unless my math's off.

Even Dark 15 Shrapmetal will, on average, do far, far, far more damage than either of those (400-460 at mid rolls, before resistance), and with high rolls, it's not even a comparison.
By my calculation, you can cast air spells at level 139 (artifact+fire ring+spellmaster)
I use dragons breath to kill gold dragons in the arena with everyone at level 60 dark magic+ spell master+ one person with an artifact and two people with a ring of dark.

oh and SSSS>>>>SSSC elemental is too good, and the few clerical spells are just not worth it
And with dark magic, you can use the reanimation trick to get a whole party to level 300 if you wanted.
How I play as a cheeser
SSSS party
note: I don't care about game time
TL:DR result from my first play session: everyone level 30, got obelisk treasure, light, and dark master and ready for reanimation trick to whatever level I want.

My first play session:

1) grab fly scroll and horseshoes,

2) go to ironfist get your 6k total gold then go to dragonsand and hire a wind master and a gate master in the little town before returning to new sorpigal, reenter dragonsand and use the shrine of the gods.
OR
go straight to dragonsand, use shrine of the gods go into NWC collect 10k gold then exit and then fly to the little group of houses for wind/gate master. (then probably go back collect food and whatever else you wanna do)

3) Now you have a gate/wind master go to every map and click on the obelisk, you wanna pick up end winter quest before going to kriegspire and wiz promotion before bootleg bay, get treasure then probably get another 50k from nwc

4) In free haven ditch wind/gate master and hire a duper/merchant which is found in a couple of houses in free haven. then buy everyone Meteor shower, inferno, fireball, fly, starburst, town portal, lloyd's beacon. Bonus ones to look out for: jump (you need at least one person with jump for archmage promotion), ring of fire, implosion, ice bolt (as i'll have high level in water) (I do two shop runs, and reset shops by waiting like a month at the pub)

5) train to level 6, get everyone expert fire, with horseshoes I believe you might be able to get everyone expert water, air and dark? if not just fire, dark, and two people with water and two with air expert. (it takes 9 skill points for expert)

6) set lloyds beacon in free haven, preferably with the person with the artifact amulet (from treasure) then ditch a merchant, then hire a gate master in free haven, then tp to blackshire where you set another beacon. (oh and pick up lord what's his face's shield)

7) go shopping again! Get day of protection, shrapmetal, reanimate, hour of power and day of the gods (which you won't use for ages) on everyone. If you are going to wait a month for shops to reset, go back to free haven and do it so you can reset your beacon and still have access to a gate master without having to look at citizens.

8) get dark expert, kill people, get dark master (you can donate back to respectable later) then off to kriegspire to do devils outpost, only need to kill one particular devil which is easy with shrapmetal, day of the gods (from nwc) and +30 level shrine. You gotta use some Lloyds beacon creativity to make sure you can do it. If you wanna make it even easier ditch wind master and hire a spell master which will increase spells by 4 levels and use wind expert to cast fly.

9) now you have 3 council quests done already lol, you can get saintly already buuut I do like just running straight through free haven sewers and picking up the prince of thieves.

10) hard part, set up Lloyds beacons at every place you hand in a council quest, and one in eel-infested waters. Last time I was an idiot and didn't get light expert so I killed a bunch of energy drakes first, leveled up to like 20 something then did this. This is where that fire expert is nice. (I would drink from the well that summons them on everyone, sleep at the inn then drink again and do it like 30 times until I know they all spawned before I kill em)

11) MAKING SURE YOU NOW HAVE LIGHT EXPERT donate to a temple to respectable, hand in 4 council quests all at once, and tp to eel-infested waters and get light master.
Deviations: hire a bard to get +200 rep, sometimes I do knight's nomination quest just for that tiny bit extra rep just in case it degrades if I have to sail to eel infested waters

12) Get archmage promotion, do corlagon's estate at a dead end you'll open a door to a shute upwards, you ccan skip a lot of the dungeon with a jump spell there.

13) get everyone level 12 in water, level 11 in dark,

14) get a ring of dark in paradise valley magic shop (save scum the shops to hell)

with level 11 in dark, guinevere, spell master and ring of dark you SHOULD be able to reanimate a minotaur king, if not then level 12 dark.

My personal goal is to get a character to level 1000, and the rest to at least level 500.

Tips:
with the reanimation trick, it's higher exp/h to level two characters at a time (stone the other two in blackshire), eventually you can quick cast reanimation and shrapmetal so you only have to mash the s key.

Lloyds beacon quick casting at nwc and bank is hella fast gold, however, there is a point where doing gold dragon arenas will be faster. I am guessing when your highest character is like level 500. Basically 250k/run and if you can do hella fast runs then that could be awesome.

How I do gold dragon arenas: Cast buff spells, wait till dusk, have everyone quick cast dragons breath, summon dragons, stay in turn-based and try to let them cluster as much as possible while blasting them with dragons breath.
you may need a few divine interventions. (you can get divine intervention on everyone by handing in golden pyramids in dragonsand) Lord reward=500x(highest level character)

Here is a nice formula I came up with for rough skill point calculations
Skill points=5(n-1)(n+10)
where n is the final level/10
i.e at level 1000 you'll have 5(99)(110) skill points, which is 54,450 which is enough to max 29 skills to level 60.

this might be an obvious formula but just in case
Exp=0.5(lvl)(lvl+1)*1000 is exp required for level, (I think it's technically exp required for lvl+1 but who cares)
so level 1000 requires 0.5(1000)(1001)(1000)=500*1001*1000=500,500,000

Thanks, I really appreciate it. MM6 has been my favourite game for many years and I love seeing how far you can push your party. I like playing games by basically making myself as op as possible.
I really wanna make a yt series but I don't really think anyone would watch it.
Again, thanks for the appreciation

Don't know if I would watch the whole thing. But there are a couple of things you do that I would like to see.
Interesting game to say the least.

Could you give some examples?
Some things might seem monotonous and some things might be more interesting so it might be nice to leave timestamps at things people might be interested in

Would not mind seeing the Re-animation trick (L1000?)
But going through all that seems like a lot of work.
Let me see if I can guess:

- start with a freshly-killed monster
- one character reanimates it, the other one-shot kills it again
- repeat ad nauseam

So is a minotaur king the most experience-earning zombie just fragile enough to be a certain one-shot kill every time, then?

EDIT: Know any good treatments for Repetitive Strain Injuries?

I like what you're doing. I also add Loretta Fleiss in Silver Cove to my early visits so I can Fix prices at each stable for early easy exp.

SummonerYuna: So, in a few weeks I'm starting Might and Magic VI: Mandate of Heaven. I've completed Might and Magic I-V but the engines of those games are completely different. I know there's something in the game about choosing either a Light path or a Dark path. Can you acquire both Light and Dark magic or once you make your choice you're sealed off from the other? Which path is more powerful? I very much prefer to play a good guy but I also like to optimize my party to face every challenge with ease. Are there things I should absolutely know before starting? Glitches, etc? What's the most powerful party you can create? Which skills are essential?

Sorry for asking so many questions but I want my time with MMVI to be as smooth as possible.

Thanks in advance!
In Might and Magic VI, it's really more about magic than might. And while light and dark magic are fun to play with, they aren't very useful. Elemental magic is another story. You are going to want to become a master of water magic as soon as possible. Fire magic is useful even at expert level, and air magic starts becoming useful once you become a master. That can be at level 4, but you need to complete a couple of promotion quests for Newton in Mist. Earth magic, mind magic, body magic, and spirit magic are useful at expert level. Spirit magic can be mastered at level 4 once you complete the preist promotions.

As for weapons, you want the best bows and daggers. Magic bows or stellar bows are your best bet. Precision bows if you are desperate. You can find magic bows in Freehaven and both types in Whitecap. The piercing daggers you find in New Sorpigal are surprisingly good. But the hard to find divine daggers are the best. Only the shop in Paradise Valley sells them. Otherwise you find them killing off the nastiest areas like Dragonsand. So then what is the best party? That should be clear by now. Four druids. Druids are powerful magic users capable of wielding the most effective weapons in the game. Anything else would be a compromise.

I've played the game with different parties, and now four druids is always the way to go. They are kind of wimpy at first, but that quickly changes once they start getting some spells. Even druids at level 1 in fire and air magic can use starburst and meteor shower with devastating results. And once they are masters of water, they can teleport and use ice bolt to cut down minotaurs. And if they are high level in air sparks and implosion are completely devastating.

So callled, "balanced parties", may work in Dnd or even other versions of Might and Magic, but they are a disaster in MM6.
were you the dude tryina argue that druids are best class? lmao
calling dark magic useless when shrapnel can os anything is hilarious though
avatar
omgzed: were you the dude tryina argue that druids are best class? lmao

In my experience Dark Magic is not especially effective (as in cost effective) in MM6. I completed the game relying mostly on Elemental Magic, and was rather underwhelmed by the Shrapnel spell. In MM7, though, Dark Magic spells like Shrapnel and Dragon Breath are very effective, and relying on Dark Magic for a Dark party is a no-brainer.
I mean I guess you could use starburst to deal with outdoors dragons and giants? what are you gonna do indoors though? and even outdoors shrapnel and armageddon are the most effective ways to deal with dragons and giants
