dblocher: Has anyone been able to get the Might & Magic 4 /5 running on OS X? I have tried using wineskin, but it crashes during install / launching
These games are DOS games. Here is how I got it working on Linux:
1. Run the World of Xeen installer from the terminal with WINE. Add the /nogui switch to the command line. (You will get a harmless error at the end of the install; ignore it.) You may want to copy the game directory to somewhere more convenient.
2. Find the dosbox[whatever].conf file in the game directory. You may need to open it with a text editor and change the paths in the last part to be valid for your OS X system.
3. Now, use a Mac OS X version of DOSBox to actually play the game.
One more tip: It is easier to get the original version of the game to run as opposed to the CD version, plus you don't need to switch virtual disks mid-game. On the down side, the copy protection is live in that version, but you will only encounter it 3 times in the entire game, and there should be a file (though I remember it being with Might and Magic 3, whose copy protection *was* removed) with the copy protection answers.
