I have Grayface's patch installed but it doesn't seem to fix this. But I installed in on an already existing game; does that make a difference?

I never experienced this. Might be a problem with your keyboard not allowing you to press different keys at once?

I doubt it; it's been like that on every computer I've played it on since I first got the game when it launched.
