I'm having a severe issue with lag in Might and Magic VI. Every action I take in the game, even in the initial menus, results in a delay. The game freezes for a few seconds, and then unfreezes with the selected action completed (I.E. opening inventory/options/maps/etc., attacking, movement). Movement is the worst, I can turn with no issues, but attempting to move either forward or backward results in lag. I can only move for about a second before the lag hits, and then if I don't release the arrow key quickly enough, the movement will continue until the lag ends, which causes me to shoot forward great distances. I have even died (oddly enough) from running head on into walls this way. The game is completely unplayable like this, which is pretty depressing, as I have loved this game more than nearly any other game, but haven't been able to play it for a decade and a half now. Someone please help!

I have encountered a similar issue: after playing a while with no problems, suddenly entering stores takes forever. The game seems to freeze for 20-30 seconds and then the shop menu opens.
I have to quit and restart to avoid these problems, but after a while they will occurr again.

You could try GrayFace' MM6 patch. It's widely used and among other things it updates some of the game's DLLs which could make a difference.
I downloaded the greyface patch and now everything is running just fine. The occasional delay still happens when entering businesses or homes, but it's not too extreme, definitely not enough of an issue to make the game any less enjoyable. Also, training your characters at a gym always delays, but again, not for very long, not enough to be a problem.
