I've searched everywhere for a fix to this problem unsuccessfully, and I've attempted installing the GrayFace mod, which hasn't really done anything. I've run as administrator and in every compatibility mode, and I've uninstalled then reinstalled the game, but it won't work.

What happens is the game starts up fine, it shows the opening movie then gets to the main menu. I click on 'New Game' and it displays the opening passage, which takes about a second to start being read out by the voice over, and it reaches the end of it perfectly fine.

I click on 'Create Party' and there's no problems until I click on the confirmation button (that thumbs up button), then it reaches the loading screen with its animation, but it crashes and says "Might and Magic VI has stopped working." The exact same stuff happens when I click on 'Quick Start'. I actually managed to get quick start to work a few times, and it loads the game up with the default party. However, when I save a game, and then either exit the game entirely or go back to the main menu, the save game is lost, and only the auto-save remains.

I'm using the GOG version. I'm not exactly sure how to bring up the specs., but I think they're:

Windows 7 Home Premium (Service Pack 1)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.30 GHz
64-bit Operating System

Could it have something to do with antivirus like in this thread.

By anti-virus I mean any kind of background software, including firewall with elements of antivirus and various language-switchers?

And game isn't installed in "program files", right?

Anyway some software on your PC denies MM6 writing/reading from disk.

It's annoying, but the anti-virus software was most certainly the problem. I actually attempted turning the firewall off, but that did nothing. I have no language-switching software, because my only fluent language is English.

I had the game folder on the C:/ drive under the default GOG Games folder.

In order to create new save games and to make a new game, I need to turn off the virus and spyware protection software, but not the firewall. It unfortunately won't save if I enter the game then turn the software back on, so I have to have my laptop running the game without good protection.

Thanks for the help, though.

One alternative to virus protection is to simply disconnect from the Internet. This will prevent any new viruses from infecting your computer (unless they come from some other source, like an infected USB drive) without preventing you from playing the game.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion, unfortunately I get the same problem without the internet but with virus protection. I'll just make sure that I have as few things as possible running when I play the game.
I would suggest contacting the anti-virus company to let them know their software seems to be a little over zealous.
