Aight, I'll get straight to the point. So, every time a semi-important message pops up, it flashes then moves on to the next message. For example, when my characters either inflict damage or get damage inflicted upon them, the message flashes so fast, you can tell it said something, but it flashes too fast to read anything. There have been fixes for this kind of this in other dos games i've played where you adjust a number in the configuration file, but I haven't seen one for this game. Thank in advance y'all!

I used MisterTL's patch code and then adjusted it with Erekose's adjustment. Now I have about 3 seconds to read the text and that is usually plenty. Much Thanks!

Actually you don't need a patch for MM1. The game runs inside DOSBox, so you can use the DOSBox controls to slow the game cycles down. Use CTRL-F11, tapping it about 8-10 times to reduce the speed; if you do this on the title screen, you'll visibly see the difference.

Also, you can use CTRL-F9, to exit the game to windows.

Have fun!

I actually prefer the patch to lowering cycles. On my machine, lowering cycles caused the rest of the game to be very sluggish, with input delay for moving my party for example. With the patch I could increase cycles again so everything moved smoothly while still being able to read the text.

I've heard that newer versions of DOSBox (i.e. NOT the version that comes with the MM pack, but a newer one that you must upgrade to yourself) can handle the game more easily just by using cycles, however. Also, Foucter is correct that changing cycles is very easy and can be a useful thing to try first before going to the trouble of installing the patch.
Thanks for the info. Using the patch seems to have help things except in the few areas mentioned here
