Just wanted to say, if anyone wants to start the Might and Magic series from the beginning but you're put off by the graphics, sound and lack of automap; there was a nes port of the game that I thought was phenomenal. This is how I originally played MM1, I didn't own a PC at the time. It's got some of the best graphics I've ever seen on the NES, a great soundtrack, and best of all.... AUTOMAP! From what I understand the difficulty was also toned down a bit. If you can manage to track down this game ( and your nes still works of course) you're in for a treat. I'm replaying it myself right now.

Or Better Yet Emulation - I prefer it on the PSP :-)
Hmm.. good idea, I should check my r..., err,, box full of old nintendo games to see if I have it.. I was planning on starting from the beginning of the series.. may as well start now.

EDIT: MM2 was also made for super Nintendo.. so you can play 1 on nes and 2 on snes and start 3 on PC

Most Definately
Here's a website with some great screenshot comparisons and does a nice write-up of the differences between versions.

I can't speak for 1 or 2, but I just played MM3 for PC recently and I can say that the VGA was much worse than the Mac version as seen here: http://lparchive.org/Might-Magic-III-Isles-of-Terra/

Edit: I just noticed on page 2 of that first link that it does have a side by side comparison of the Mac and DOS versions of MM3. It doesn't look too bad when comparing thumbnails but you can really notice the difference when playing full screen.
