I've discovered something really odd in Might and Magic 8 which I thought merits sharing.

I wanted to cast Town Portal with my Lich, but accidentally clicked on the "Set quick spell" button (because Town Portal is in the bottom left corner of the book, it's quite easy to do so) without any spell selected. However, instead of the usual "erase sound", I heard my Lich announce the spell was ready. I went to the quick ref page to see what on Jadame he set as his quick spell when I had none selected, and lo and behold, it's the Fly spell. This is especially curious because he doesn't have the spell; what's more, he's only Expert in Air Magic! It seems it hasn't caused any problems for the game (no crashes/corrupted saves/whatever), either.
I tried this with my main char, a Cleric of the Sun, and he got the Psychic Shock spell, which he also couldn't even cast at the time.

Anyone else encountered this?
I didn't, since I don't use quickspell.
Seems like a useful thing, though.
Yep. Try it with your Dark Elf with Grandmaster Dark Elf magic. It'll give you Armageddon. You might have to mess around with it a little, like setting one of your Dark Elf spells to quickspell then removing it then doing the glich.

I think Vampire will give you Flying Fist at first level. Or maybe it's Dark Magic. Either way, you get a strong spell right off the bat.

I haven't tried all the possible combos, and I'm sure there a lot.
Well I found this funny thing too but don't remember where i posted it haha.
The thing with this glitch is that everyone can use it who has 2 magic classes learned.

Allow me to explain what you need:
You need to have a caster with two magics , lets say water and earth, and at least have one spell in
each class learned, any spell, either normal, expert, master or GM spell or level.

Now select (for example) water resistance in your water book and then when it is highlighted, click on your earth
book. Without selecting any spells press the 'set quickspell' button. Your caster will happily set it even though nothing
is selected.

Now go and check your mage and you see that it has Ice Blast set as his quickspell, HECK you didn't even had it and your mage was only a normal level 1 in water magic....

Point being: The spell that will be set is one of the master class spells of the book ABOVE your last selected book.
In this example we clicked water resistance and then clicked on "earth" --> the book above is water.
If you (after selecting water resistance) had selected your AIR book, the corresponding spell would be a master class Fire spell. Now I can't remember which one as all the spells are fixed. like Fly (air, when selecting water book), Ice blast (water, when selecting earth book) probably rock blast (earth when a cleric selects the spirit book!!!!!!).. and so on.

As I just mentioned, Even clerics can cast a master class earth spell without even knowing the skill or spell.

ONE WARNING, Never select the fire book as last, there are no books above it.. this will cause your game to crash and your progress (unless you save before it) will be gone.

Apply this like this. Create a new game with whatever starting character, go to the Inn on Dagger Wound Island. Hire the Necromancer and select (highlighted) one of his Fire spells then press the Water book. Now press the 'set quickspell' button, cast and here you go!! Fly to the boat and set sail to Ravenshore... Pretty much within 3 minutes you'll be in ravenshore from start.. :D

Whatchout with your beginning vampire though, Selecting the vampire class as last will get you armagedon and if you have no one over the 55-ish HP you all die haha.
