Pyromancer138: 2.D-pad diagonals not working in Metal Gear Solid, please fix it.
MGS identifies the D-pad as POV 0 - 90 - 180 - 270 when you map controls on it, and I imagine the game cannot have two values on POV simultaneously, so diagonals are not possible. This joystick implementation shows its age.
If people on GOG can transform it into axes, or maybe even buttons, diagonals should be read as two different inputs.

In any case, great work bringing these games.
As others have said the only way to really enjoy these games is to look up the fan mods and patches which is a big shame. I hope you're looking more into this with Konami and getting a patch yourselves together to get at least the controller support more up to date.

Lets get an Xinput patch!

P.S. I know this is a controller thread but while we're here I think AMD GPUs (even modern ones) are having issues in Metal Gear Solid 2's cutscenes, some frames are showing pitch black glitches on models and backgrounds. It doesn't happen often but very specific scenes cause it such as the Olga fight in the Tanker beginning level. Not 100% sure it's an AMD issue only but if you could test this and let us know that would be very appreciated. Thank you :)

I have a Logitech F310 game pad in Xinput mode. When I assign a button to the right trigger (let's say Inventory Weapons or Inventory Items) it instead gets mapped to the left trigger, and vice versa.

My Xbox One controller with the official USB dongle also did the same thing. Otherwise, it worked fine, minus not being able to use diagonals for the d-pad.
My Switch Pro controller doesn't work too well. I can only turn to the left by doing a big circle. Also it seems like there is some input lag.
In another thread, someone posted a link to this fix which makes the MGS2 controls work MUCH better for me.

Can't get my Xbox One or Steam Controller to work with MGS 1 even with the fan patch. As for Metal Gear Solid 2 I can get the steam controller to work but the controller config V's guide mentions is not there.

What I've done is run GOG from steam, so I can create a custom profile of the steam controller. Since the controls menu is terrbile, I have simply mapped the default keys on the controller comparing to the old PSX controls... Oooorrrr you can also run the mgsi.exe from steam and not do the silly thing I have done of running mgsi through gog through steam :D

I would like to report that the default config for Keyboard on Spanish keyboard missed the Down Arrow and it's unbind by default... so when I reached Psycho Mantis and had to switch controller I thought he was still playing tricks on me as the movement was horrible... it turned out that the "move down" was unbind and "move right" was assigned to left arrow key...
fortunately it allowed me to bind the arrows correctly but it costed me a few deaths due to this. Hope this helps other players :)

Thiev: D-Pad for Xbox controllers should now bind correctly in Metal Gear (MSX).
Thanks a lot,Thiev.
Could you please do the same thing for Konami Collector's Series?

I was mistaken, sadly. But it will be fixed soon. ><
We really need a time line or answer on whether or not MGS2 (and 1 if possible) will get real Xinput support. If the GOG team cannot do it then we'll know if we should stick to the fan fix.
Can you also look into why MGS1 gets analog triggers inverted when mapping them to Inventory Items/Weapons and why diagonal inputs from the D-pad does not work with that game?
Has anyone tried MGS2 with a DS3 Pad? Does it work with pressure sensitive buttons?

I know the xbox pad doesn't have those buttons, but the ds3 pad has and its possible to use it on pc, just not sure if the mgs2 pc port will support it.
