Hi,
Well, I know that the GOG website talks about having games for XP and Vista. But I have Windows 7 and was willing to spend $6 to see if I could play MOO 1 and MOO 2. When I first installed them, I couldn't run them. However, when I updated DosBox to 0.74 my problems all went away and I found I could play both games without difficulty.
So, I just thought I would mention it in case anyone else is trying to play MOO 1 and 2 under Windows 7 and is having problems. It is at least worth a try.

No issue with MoO2 under Win7 64 bit here. Some have issues with sound stuttering, but there are solutions available in this forum for that if you get affected.
As far as that goes, anything running on DosBox on Win 7 would only rely on DosBox's ability to run properly under Windows 7. In other words, if DosBox is compatible, so is a game on DosBox.

This could be a change, but I don't think that's entirely true. I've certainly had some DOS games work through DOSBOX on XP and others not, even though DOSBOX was obviously working, and some work better than others.
Now, mind you, this could be more an issue of how well DOSBOX's emulation is working working with a particular game, but its not quite the binary issue your post seems to suggest.

True and I've got into greater detail elsewhere. However, I should have originally added "ideally" to the sentence and I apologize if I mislead someone.
I just want to share my experience: I bought the bundle today. The games do not run on my Win 7 64bit machine under ANY graphical setting. (Yes, I run everything as administrator etc.)

But I noticed the games came with Dosbox 0.73. I have 0.74 installed. When I ran it, simply mounting the directory and running "orion" was enough to get a playable game.

Still not too happy - one of the reasons for buying the bundle was that I shouldn't have to mess with DosBox myself. And the games are officially supported in Win 7 64 bit.

I find this kind of odd, since my download of MOO2 at least ran with no tweaks, under Win7 64-bit. I don't remember what version of DosBox I have (it's been on my comp for a year or two now), but I'm not sure why the issues appeared.

Well, it is odd to me too, that's why I posted what I posted. The DosBox I installed myself runs the game nicely, the one bundled with the game by GOG doesn't.

The way understand it, the DosBox that GOG bundles things with is like a local encapsulation of DosBox for that specific program. If one the other hand you install DosBox on your system separately, you're doing a global installation - in other it is expected to use that version of DosBox. If you have 0.74 installed globally, it may be forming some incompatibility with the local 0.73 installation. I have Windows 7 too and did not encounter a problem with either MoO1 or MoO2 from GOG. My guess is that your problem has to do with the two versions of DosBox on your computer. Perhaps if you removed 0.74, you would probably be able to reinstall and play your local 0.73 game correctly? Though since you have it working now, it's probably not worth it as a test. ;)

Yeah, thanks for the idea, I appreciate any help, but I won't be trying it since I got the game to run ;) Incidentally, Dragonsphere works perfectly with the bundled DosBox.

I think Dragonsphere comes with 0.74 bundled - or at least a different configurator which might work differently. (http://www.gog.com/en/forum/dragonsphere/new_dosbox)

But I agree since MoO now works, it isn't worth trying to fix again what you've already fixed. :)
