Here's a game that might interest the MOO1 fans here: Remnants of the Precursors is a almost exactly like MOO1, but it uses the space available on modern displays to show a larger chunk of the map, and more info about your colonies.

is a gameplay video. [url=https://remnantsoftheprecursors.com/2016/05/24/alpha-update-1-week-away/]Public alpha testing starts on June 1st.
Very cool! I remember hearing about this... seems like years ago, and I just filed it away as one of those vanity projects that would never make it out of the "wouldn't that be cool" stage. But here it is, ready for play-testing!
It looks quite nice, I'd love a MOO just with an updated makeup, no really big changes on gameplay.

But what's the point of the project? Release it as freeware or sell it? Because the guy could be in trouble with the people developing the collector's edition, even if not using the game's official name.
The developer has, from the beginning, made clear his intention to give it away for free. He's been in contact with Wargaming and gotten their permission to go through with it under the condition that he changed the name and didn't sell it. Hopefully they don't go back on that!

Actually, he goes into some detail about his intentions with the project right here... should answer your questions: http://www.pretendstudios.com/faq.html

It looks awesome but for the life of me I cant control my ships. They are automatically going where they want and i have no control over them.

I made a simple bat file to autorun the game in 800MB RAM.

The default difficulty setting was 'AI Testing'. This is a mode for the player to watch the AI play and he is therefore unable to control his ships.

It is confusing that this is the default difficulty setting, so I have made "Average" the default. Let me know if you have any more problems!
I played on 1GB setting with : java -Xmx1g -jar RotP.jar

SOME POSITIVES:

* Can zoom in an out
* There is a BASES part on colony pages. You can write here the maximum number of missle bases on a colony. that is genious.

SOME SUGGESTIONS:

* Pressing ENTER should work on planet colonizing page.
* No nations status screen that shows overall power. Forexample I cant see my research status compared to others.
* I guess there is no ship fight scenes yet.

Overall an amazing job. I had so much fun playing it.

1. You mean pressing ENTER to confirm the colony name? I can fix that
2. There is no ranking screen yet. That's a feature yet to be added.
3. Tactical Ship Combat is going to be in the next alpha, months away. There's a lot of ship artwork that needs to be done for it.

Thank you. Yes I mean to confirm name. You type something and then you have to click.

I will be following that since MOO is my favorite game of all time and you simply made it even more amazing.
I lost my first game after second global voting so I started a new game. I noticed I can not select my flag color. It seems completely random at the moment. Am I missing something?_

Player selection of flag color is not in yet.

I insist that you recalibrate your definition of amazing.

Why? Dont you like that I find a modern MOO amazing? It is my favorite game of all time and you made it even better. However if you dont like my way of speaking i can easily stay away.
