Hello
For ones who still interested in this great game, and want to learn it, or discuss it, or maybe even play it with other humans - there is still alive moo2 community in quakenet irc. irc:quakenet.org #moo2 or simply http://webchat.quakenet.org/, any login, channel #moo2 in case you dont have a irc client at hand. 2 main player's timezones are at USA and Eastern Europe, so you have a good chance to catch somebody active all the day. Hope to see some people from here, good luck.

This game never gets old, there are always some people who play it ^^
Hey thanks for lettings us know about this site. I tried one game last night and it was different thats for sure.

Sadly in a 1v1 game it is not really fun as it is just to messed up. My opponent just went with Ship Atk bonus +50 and Trans Flight pick and then just had scouts with nothing on them running around the battle field evading missiles and things.

The problem with this is combat takes quite a bit longer vs humans because it's xfering data back and forth so much. He would atk with say 3 ships one of them being that scout. I would take out the 2 main ships and he would just try to stall the combat.

I think the only legit way to play would have to be with comp opponents thrown in as otherwise it's just not that fun.

Oh also some info for players is that apparently they are using a newer version of the game. Version from gog is ver 1.40b23 they use 1.40b24 and I am not sure what changes are present in the new version.
Sadly its a problem in battle mechanics in game. You cant expect human players building a pieces of scrap as AI do, or play a thrash races as AI do, again. Also no point to stall a combat in attack in a way you described, but if this scout just wait enough turns so projectiles can hit theyr target for a win - whats a problem with it? Or if you attacked a fast defending ship with some fleet what cant do any harm to it - sadly you just need to retreat, or bomb a planet as much as can if you want. You will be retreated after 50 turns anyway. And yes, sadly game work here unlike moo1 and you cant initiate a planet landing even if your fleet is supposedly much stronger than one scout. Its just a game rules. Also there is no problem in throwing an AI, but any player who tried it, dropped the idea after. AI is extremally easy to capture, and all game will be determined with who get the better AI as bonus. One who will capture, say silikoids, surely will win against one who will capture, say mrrshans. Not only it was much easier task for a first player, but also and more important they will produce much more production after.

Also most players use a v23, and there is no problem with v24, as it have no game changes at all, and only have a different patcher, working on soem other OS'es aswell.

Lol, play nice. You should just say playing against human is much harder than playing against AI. Obviously.

He attacked me with 2 Cruisers and a Scout (no weapons).
I had 3 Destroyers.

I had 2 Destroyers left and he had his 1 Scout. He had no missiles/Fighters on screen trying to hit targets. His 1 scout was being chased by 4 Missiles with no real way to evade if they caught upto him. Sadly he had Trans Dimensional pick and was faster than the missiles able to outrun them indefinitly.

The only legit option for him imho at this point would be to try to take out one of my Destroyers with a Self Distruct (made sure they were far enough apart he couldn't get both) or to RETREAT. Stalling at this point does nothing for him I don't think as on draw his ship would be auto sent back to his nearest colony.

PS Reedneir I know Humans are much tougher to fight vs than Humans as I have played enough other games single then gone multi to know there is a learning curve and not expecting to win for quite a bunch of games. Namely Heroes of Might and Magic 3. Game already takes long enough without ppl stalling for no reason but to annoy you into forfitting sigh.

Man, get back to IRC when you can, i returned to play you, and realizied what you gone 3 minuts ago. If he actually was intiated a combad you described - well, he did a really stupid thing, sorry. He surely should retrat or blow a ship then. That guy play only few weeks tho, so it could happen to him, but ill talk to him and explain, sorry for it and thanks.
Do you guys ever play just MOO2 unmodded? Cause I'm honestly more interested in that.
JKeller360, of course. Vanilla 1.40 is often played.
